NWFlyer 2 #1 February 18, 2005 I work at one of those places that, let's just say, is a little meeting-happy. Consensus-happy. We talk about a lot but don't get nearly as much accomplished as we should. Imagine my surprise when my first two meetings of the day were not only remarkably productive, one finished early and one finished on time with all tasks accopmplished and new ideas generated. I'm about to go into my last one of the day... can I make it 3 for 3? Submit your votes... I'll be back at 3 with the results."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Muenkel 0 #2 February 18, 2005 There is absolutely no way a meeting after 2pm can be productive...no way! Chris _________________________________________ Chris

NWFlyer 2 #4 February 18, 2005 Holy shit. 3 up, 3 down. Over by 2:35, got in another mini-meeting with some of the other participants, and I'm back at my desk by 3:03. Don't get me wrong. I'll be cynical again next week.

happythoughts 0 #7 February 19, 2005 Try Buzz Word Bingo We used it for monthly meetings at Verizon. It kept everyone awake. Trust me, that was a struggle. Even my boss fell asleep once. Everybody contributed 5 buzzwords. Non-technical, management ones worked best. The managers were definitely going to use "goal-oriented" or "paradigm shift". Anyway, you need about 50 good ones. Put them in a text file. Write a short program to pick 25 and generate them into a 5-by-5 bingo card. Pass them out before meetings. Have the winner use a keyword like "key" in a question or comment to signal a win. "This sounds like a key system." Tapping a pencil is good for shy people. Besides, I think you haven't got over the "productivity" thing. I look at meetings as coffee-consumption opportunities. Did I mention that I get paid by the hour? Stacy 0 #8 February 19, 2005 hahahahaha! my 3 PM meeting was terrible today! we spent 90 minutes talking about, errr, core values. I wanted to say, "I have no values" and leave.
happythoughts 0 #9 February 19, 2005 "core values" excellent for buzzword bingo. "mission statement" "shared values" "building consensus" Another good game is to come up with a list of phrases. Put them on slips of paper. Everybody playing has to draw a slip, then work the phrase into the meeting conversation somehow. I loved "team builds". You essentially got the whole day off, had lunch delivered, good coffee in the morning (sometimes with bagels). If you were good at team builds, you can traumatize everyone else. "If you were on a lifeboat with 4 people (making 5 of you) and there was only food/water for 4, what would you do?" (Good of the group or indiviualist) Kill the others while they slept, plenty of food for one now.

Oh, I've played quite a bit of buzzword bingo in my day. Alas, I work for a stingy company - no coffee provided in meetings."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
