flyingferret 0 #1 February 22, 2005 I kind of collect cool r/c videos, like the huge b-52, and its sad crash. This was forwarded to me today...and wow! Amazing...but is it real? It almost seems too good. Anyone know? http://www.midcountyrc.com/videocorner/AFPD.wmv -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. flyingferret 0 #3 February 22, 2005 Damn it here I co answering my own questions: It is fake, kinda.... http://www.aerofly.com/gallery.html It is in the aerofly simulator, but there is a pilot actually flying it, and it is based on totally legit physics for that model....so...does that make it real?-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. payback462 0 #4 February 22, 2005 the plane itself looks fake, parts of it dissapear and reappear when its doing that close helicopter thing. on a side note, i recently saw a REAL video of an RC helicopter that was mind boggling, basically most of the same stuff just with a chopper. i cant find it though GRRR
flyingferret 0 #5 February 22, 2005 The really weird part is the auto focus on the camcorder...when the plane drifts, why would a sim video do that? But it is confirmed AFP is Aerofly Pro, hence the title of the video and thread.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
JeffD 0 #6 February 22, 2005 Theres no pilot in the movie, and the cameraman is awesome. so you know its a sim. Anyway we bought something like this www.realflight.com and it was a great training aid for learning RC. So yes there is a pilot flying that thing, and you can really do that stuff in real life. Slappie 9 #7 February 22, 2005 I say it's fake because it's computer generated. If you crashed it you just load a new plane. If it was real and crashed it, you'd load up and go home. flyingferret 0 #9 February 22, 2005 Thanks for the confirmation....I ended up finding that out several posts up, after I had posted the thread. Still rather intriguing, and pretty incredible piloting. How accurate are the physics models? And they be modified to that degree that the piloting is easier?-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
freethefly 6 #10 February 22, 2005 Really cool video. It was somewhat mundane untill 1:50 and then WOW. Ther is a jumper in K.C. who has an RC plane and can make it stand still on it's tail , also make it dance and walk. Real amazing to watch. Last 4th of July we did a demo into the Joplin airshow, while there we watched a guy inside a glider with two RC jet engines mounted on the wings do the same stunts, blew my mind to watch this big glider stand up on it's tail and dance in place, amazing."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." bobsled92 0 #11 February 22, 2005 VERY nice Sim though. I flew a Shuttle ZX for years and the guy that got me into it competes with several .60 size Helis. The inverted hovering inches off the ground is something else. I have NEVER flow inverted. I last flew with a full NY State Police body & strobes. I keep my stuff simple but, fun._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/

Guest #13 February 22, 2005 I've recently seen a battery-powered RC plane helicoptered around like that in the waiting line of the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry terminal here. It was amazing. mh .
cvfd1399 0 #14 February 22, 2005 This one kicks ass. A flying lawn mower. It is basically either gutted, or built to look like a push mower with a engine on the front. The flap on the back that keeps dog shit from hitting your feet when you run over it seems to be cut in half and connected to servos to fly it. Is that your lawn mower? flyingferret 0 #15 February 22, 2005 Yeah, seen pics of it. It is actually built from balsa wood, but very convincingly. http://images.google.com/images?q=flying%20lawnmower&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. I know the guy that built the prototype, and have seen it fly for real. About 1 minute into the video you can see that the "engine" is fake, because you can see right through it from the front (or rear). The "wheels" aren't real, they are just styrofoam, and it has regular model airplane landing gear underneath. It has a .60 size model plane engine....
