What happened to good humor?

Recommended Posts

"IMO, of all the English speaking countries, British humor is still a grade above everything"

I don't know about that, you have to compare apples with apples, as it were.
EG Monty Python doesn't really compare with Malcolm in the Middle, both are excellent but different.

In terms of the big screen, I'd say its pretty much even, eg I watched Steve Martin in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid last night and pissed myself again. Comparable to Peter Sellers IMO.

On the animation front, the US is light years ahead, if you take Aardman out of the equation.;)

If you see what I mean?:S:)

I watched a really good film awhile back but can't remember the title, it was an English film (really bad memory)

It was about a retired man in a small village who has financial problems, So he starts growing canabis.
No sex, no violence just a funny film.

Someone remember the title?

Saving Grace.

Brilliant film. It's about an old lady who's husband dies and leaves her in huge debt. So with th help of her pot smoking Scottish gardner she starts growing to make some money. It's hilarious.

And Nac, Angry Kid rules! B|

Aye, Saving Grace is cool, and dayumm, I'd forgotten about Angry Kid, thanks for reminding me.

I was thinking more along the lines of The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave, Chicken Run, and loads of wee flicks, which I spent much of the weekend copying from VHS onto DVD for my bairn. He loves them.:)

My wife and I rented Anchorman. I ripped it to hard drive (before watching), burned a copy (again, before watching), and returned the original.

We then watched "our own" copy.

At the end, I removed the copy from the player, and placed it directly in the trash can.

It's not that Anchorman was that bad, it's that it had so much potential, and fell soooo damn short. [:/]

Saturday Night Live is guerilla humor. Try something out as a 3-minute skit and see if it flies. Some do and some fail miserably.

The problem comes when someone tries to build a character-driven comedy from one character instead of the interaction of characters. I saw Victoria Jackson (old school SNL dumb blonde) live at the Improv. It sucked.

There are lots of examples of SNL skits being redone as movies. Some worked, some failed.
