DrewEckhardt 0 #27 February 23, 2005 Quoteif you got one for dong 80 in a 55... what would you do? cough cough Hire a lawyer and drive slower for a year within the state borders. 25+ over in Colorado is a misdemeanor not an infraction. In theory you could go to jail for it. 20-39 over over is also a 6 point offense. You loose your license after accumulating 12 points in one year. For tickets written as under 24 over I go to court and plea bargain. Towns that are only interested in revenue generation can accept pleas for things like "obstructed rear window" (0 points, no insurance implications) or "defective vehicle". Just mailing in the ticket with a check in your home state is stupid. A lawyer probably can't do any better on the plea and the consequences aren't too bad so I don't bother with one - my time isn't worth more than the lawyer's ($200/hour). EDYDO 0 #28 February 23, 2005 I don't normally hire a lawyer for traffic violations, but NC is different. Traffic violations are handled in circuit court and not a lower court. I was told by the patrolman, "Do not go to court without a lawyer. The judge is a lawyer and you will not do well." I took his advice, right or wrong. I will likely be back in Raeford in the spring. Jumping at St George and Lake Wales right now. Ed
chuckbrown 0 #29 February 23, 2005 Most states have vehicle code provisions that allow you to plead to a non-point offense (if the cop is willing). In PA its called "failure to obey traffic signals," and is a lesser offense than exceeding the speed limit. It's a win-win for everybody (relatively speaking). The government gets your money, but you don't get any points. A lawyer might be worth not getting any points.
leroydb 0 #30 February 26, 2005 found a lawer that used to be the county commisioner here. Has been practicing law 30+ years. suggested I take a defensive drivers course and have taken an online one. Hope to take one on post to. will submitt both of those and my DDC card for my motorcycle also. all of that the lawer said should allow him to get it droped to 65 and no points... that is yet to be seen of course... but it is better than paying straight up for the ticketLeroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio...
