Things to do in Long Beach, CA?

Recommended Posts

My g/f and I will be traveling to Long Beach, Ca in the 1st week in March. Anyone familiar with the area, sites to see, things to do? We'll be staying with friends but I'm not sure what area they live in, somewhere near the beach:P

Drive up to Lompoc and make a jump Beautiful view over the ocean and Vandenberg AFB.. I think it's about 45 to 50 minutes to drive there..

Are you kidding? 45 minutes won't even get you out of LA from Long Beach! Perris & Elsinore are probably closer.
Things to do while in Long Beach: drive to Venice Beach...:);)

The Queen Mary is there (http://www.queenmary.com/). It was recommended to me as a good place to go, and it looks interesting, but I haven't been there yet...

Also, the Body Worlds 2 exhibit will be open in LA during that time. The first one was really good. (http://www.californiasciencecenter.org/Exhibits/Weingart/BodyWORLDS_2/BodyWORLDS_2.php)

Problem is that I don't think we'll have a car but I might be able to borrow someones for the day if I drop him off at work or something. I'll be sure to bring my DD list with y'alls numbers on it and will call when we arrive.

I asked them if they want to do some tandems but I doubt jumping will be part of the plan. If anyone wants to get together shoot me a PM.

I don't live in the burbs! I don't live in the burbs!

Ok, I guess I do.... How the hell did I end up living in the burbs? [:/]

You want me to make plans for a day in March??? I am barely capable of making plans two days in advance! :S:P

But I will probably join you guys if I'm reminded at the time. :)
Oh, and I'll probably be heading that way sometime to see the Body Worlds 2 exhibit... except I'm gonna try to plan to go when it's not so freakin' crowded! So if any of you guys want to go to that...

Go to the AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC!http://www.aquariumofpacific.org/index.html

That is the coolest aquarium, I LOVED the jellyfish and the sea dragons! I can't wait to go again.

Long Beach didn't seem too nice other than that, it was just an in between San Diego and LA. But, we didn't stay long. I'm sure there is more to do. But, don't miss the aquarium!

Yeah, good point!
Well, maybe it's time to start the monthly "dz.com Friday evening party till you drop in Venice" tradition...

I got a really cheap rental car when I went to LA for a wedding. The LA area really sucks without a car, IMO. (Hate to be so judgemental since I've only been there once.....)

But seriously, the rental I got was super cheap- something like $15.00 a day. Don't remember the company but I booked it through Orbitz when I booked my flight.

Look into it- you'll be able to see and do more with a car, and it shouldn't break the bank either!

I think the bar that invented the Shoot the Root is there.

That would be the Bayshore... I live behind it...

Slowfaller, where are you staying? The Queen Mary is real cool, as is the aquarium...There is a pretty cool little shuttle bus called the passport which runs down to Seal Beach and through Belmont up to downtown, as well...

I now have a 7-10PM class every Friday night for the next four months. :( You guys would all be passed out by the time I got there!

Maybe a Saturday night though... :)
I don't think I've ever partied in Venice. In fact, I don't think I've even been to Venice Beach (went there once but everything had just closed down).

Fine, we'll set it up for Saturdays then. 1st Saturday of each month, how's that? And Venice has bars that stay opened pretty late...

Go to In N Out Burger. I suppose technically you could do that just about anywhere in California, but for people who live outside the radius of In N Out's influence, it's the first thing we think of.

Oh, and IIRC there's some good bars/restaurants in the downtown Long Beach area. I spent about a year as a regular at the Westin down there on a consulting project.

Hahahahahaha....Long Beach blows!

Enjoy!

:D

PS - Second Street is good for a couple of bars. If you like sushi, Sushi of Naples is good (also on second street).

I'm just kidding...Long Beach is lovely. It's a wonderful, wonderful place. :S

Second Street really can be pretty cool, and Pine Street downtown. The city is actually getting better, but my favorite passtime for the past year has been bitching about Long Beach. :)
