unformed 0 #1 March 2, 2005 My roommate offered me this proposition (jokingly of course) but it makes me wonder. He offered to pay for all my skydiving, send me surfing, base jumping trip, rock climbing, etc, etc, all around the world .... BUT I have to allow him to take out a life insurance policy on me. kelel01 1 #2 March 2, 2005 If all of those risks are going to be covered by the policy, it'd be incredibly expensive. As such, I figure he wouldn't let you live through more than one or two payments before he bumps you off. So, no.

unformed 0 #7 March 2, 2005 QuoteDo you have to have permission to put insurance on someone? Yeach, we were discussing that yesterday. He said I was going to kill myself doing something stupid; so I told him to take out a policy on me. He said I'd have to sign for it, because otherwise you could just take a policy out on someone, then pop em off, and bam you're rich. This ad space for sale. TrophyHusband 0 #11 March 2, 2005 QuoteDo you have to have permission to put insurance on someone? no, walmart has been taking out insurence policies out on their old employees for years and making a fortune off of it. there's nothing illegal about it but still kinda creepy. i would however take my roommate up on the offer if it were serious. peregrinerose 0 #12 March 2, 2005 You'd be nuts not to go for an offer like that. Who cares if he's the beneficiary of your life insurance... if he's paying go for it. As long as he doesn't touch any of your gear. After all, you'll be dead and not need the money Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
white_falcon 0 #13 March 2, 2005 You don't necessasarily need "permission", but there MUST be an "insurable interest". Just a roomate would not be able to take out the policy unless, he would "lose" something if the "skydiver" died. Walmart (or any other business) "could" take out polices on employees because the LOSS of a "trained key person" COULD cause an economic loss. Insurance, its what I DO to pay for my skydiving. Scott Of course, if WAS possible, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
lawrocket 3 #14 March 2, 2005 Actually, I think that you may end up spending more getting life insurance than you would on the jumps. But, he wouldn't want to bump you off for probably a good two years, or else the life insurance company may deny coverage. Another issue - your roommate probably does not have an insurable interest. As such, I figure he wouldn't let you live through more than one or two payments before he bumps you off. So, no. actually, as long as you dont try to fly private aircraft AND skydive, its not that expensive. It surprised the hell out of me. Guardian has a policy that I have that is reasonable. I have $100,000 for $20/month and it even covers skydiving. Didnt have to waiver it or anything. Now the kicker is if I wanted to renew my Pilots license.... they wouldnt even touch me if I flew AND was a skydiver.... just a pilot, ok, but it would cost me another 50% more in premiums. Finally, a company that has a firm grasp on the realities of skydiving, not some ill conceived notion that we are playing virtual russian roulette with an automatic handgun. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
