Going to Quebec in June

Recommended Posts

I'm going to another HIV conference in June, and its in Quebec (city).

Anyone know anything about it?

Only prob. is: my company has this real pain-in-the-ass policy where I can't take vacation days before or after a meeting. Even though it wouldn't cost them a dime more, since I wouldn't charge them for days outside of the meeting.>:( so I might not have enough time to do much.

anyway, what is there to do in Quebec? Are there any cheap places to stay, if I manage to talk the travel department into letting me stay a few days more? (not bloody likely, tho).

Oh you're going to hate it there.

The people talk funny, gesture a lot with their hands, in some parts they still can't turn right on a red light, it all just so weird!!!:S

Just ask Remster.... He hates it there...:o

Move the conference to Calgary!B|

Edited to add: They have no night life and I hear the food and wine aren't very good either.

There is a dz about 30 miles outside Quebec because we got a lot of visitors from there this winter.

Try to get your conference on a Friday, then fly out on Sunday. Or the reverse, Monday conference, fly in on Friday evening.

Your company may not pay for the hotel on the weekend though.

"Old town", is gorgeous. Great shops, great restaurants, it really is a bit of "Old Europe" right here in North America. It can be a bit touristy during the summer.

My best advice would be to take some time to walk the old parts. Even if you don't care for history too much, the place just exudes it... You can't help but tune in.

Sure... Calgary... Yawn!;)

QC is a great city. Loads and loads of history to soak in. Try and get a hotel in the "Vieille Ville" (Old Town). I tend to trust expedia when traveling... I've only stayed in QC once or twice and I used expedia and got decent deals.

Walk around town, have some nice food, denpending how much into old towns you are, that coule take a couple of days.

As mentioned, there's a DZ just south of the city, run by a budy of mine. Not sure what thier plane plans are for next year, but they had a King Air for a year or so. Its not a big DZ though, so dont expect the place to be super busy outside of weekends. I, like you, dont bring my rig if I go to a new city for just a couple of days... I tend to do the touristy thing.

Just found out I might be able to wheedle one extra day for sightseeing. No jumping, though.

The area around the hotel where I will be staying looks like it has some pretty cool stuff within walking distance...historical sites, art galleries, museums...even an Irish bar.B|

so where can I find a pronunciation guide to all these French names, so that the French-Canadians don't spit on me & call me an American pig?;):D
