Dress Code

Recommended Posts

You can always tell when you get a new Human Resources manager. About 6 weeks after they start, they publish the new dress code.

Everything has to be done within govt guidelines, the dress code is the only thing that they decide.

Putting out a memo on dress code does two things.
- Everyone finds out who they are.
- They appear to be a decision-maker making those important decisions. :S

We're "business casual" here also, but jeans only on special occasions, and gym shoes almost never.

The thing about "business casual" is I dress the same regardless- slacks and a sweater is pretty typical, along with comfortable flat shoes. (right now they are on the floor as I sit indian style at my desk!) For "full business attire" I might add a blazer or wear a pants suit! The guys don't have to wear ties, that's about it. My days of wearing suits, panty hose and heals are long gone. (I think I gave almost all my suits and "business style" dresses away!)

Occasionally one of the women wears this fuzzy apple green collar thing with a very slinky dress. Now that's weird.

Ok that is weird.

Yeah. It looks like of like she has a very large, very hairy caterpillar wrapped around her neck :D

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Business casual for client meetings (khakis/dress slacks, dress shirt/polo).
Same thing during normal in-office days, but only if I'm trying to impress someone. Recently I haven't given much of a shit and I've been doing the California-casual thing: nice shoes, jeans, shirt. No one's said anything...so far.
And then there's days like today...sitting on my couch in shorts and a t-shirt, working between trips to the dog park. :)I miss the dotcom days of optional footwear, shorts, t-shirts, ball caps and rarely shaving. [:/]

Pretty casual.

Jeans & collar shirt, tennis shoes allowed accept on the manufacturing floor - Fridays t-shirts acceptable

hair = anything is ok as long as it's clean. I've had some really funky facial hair designs and haircuts. Never had a problem.

I sit here in my office in jeans, tennis shoes and a long sleeve white Chicks Rock T-shirt. My hairs messed up. I don't have any make up on and no one cares.

Do you have a dress code at work or wear a uniform?

Nope. I turned down a position which required business casual and got one job (with the last window office) after interviewing in jeans with holes.

Some offensive T-shirts wouldn't be allowed by the sexual harassment policy, not the non-existant dress-code.

(this is not a ploy to find all the hot guys in uniforms)

I am wearing a winter beanie, a old untucked polo shirt, and jeans.

So no, no dress code. ;)
Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

I'm a long haul trucker I generally wear whatever pleases me.
Ya ever drive cross-country in just your underwear, let the A/C break when its 100'f+ outside and you've a delivery deadline to meet before you can get your A/C fixed>:(.
There are some shippers/receivers that require certain clothing/safety equipment while on their premises or in certain areas.

nope.. for the most part (except demos and offsite training where they like us to be reasonably well dressed) we are "people under the stairs". no one sees us unless they come into our lab, but since its cold we're usually in jeans and jackets over whatever else we are wearing..(Surf's up biotch. on occasion even)...

however even in the feild most of my section looks more like a rock band than an engineering group.. its nice to be in a position where performance and function weighs more than preconceptions and form in terms of professionalism.

Once I worked at a credit card processing place. Three network guys doing the goth thing. Black pants, shirts, hair, shoes.

In the software industry we have a saying, "If you have a ponytail, you're going to need to be real good." No one generally cares as long as you get your job done. These guys were wierd and worthless.

No dress code, but it's kinda expected that you dress nicely. I wear jeans and a polo shirt most days.

Does that really work? Seems like every office I've worked in- including where I am now- every time they try to relax the dress code, someone pushes the limit. On our rare "jeans" days, someone will show up in ragged painter pants, a tee shirt, and sneakers, looking like they just rolled out of bed and didn't even bother to shower or brush their hair. Someone else will show up in skin tight low rise jeans with their ass hanging out, and an equally revealing top. (Usually that person doesn't have the figure for what they are wearing, either!) Its "jeans" day, not slob or hootchie day! Our office manager has to act as the fashion police and remind people how to dress and spell out exact guidelines. Its kind of frustrating that you can't count of people who are adults to act like adults and use a little common sense! Kind of ruins it for the rest of us!

I work for a small company of only about 20. Most are our technicians. There are only 7 of us in the office and only three of us ever leave the office for work related stuff. So there really it seems to work fine. Besides of all of us in the office I'm the only not a family member.
