kelel01 1 #1 March 4, 2005 Ok, so I'm taking care of a 14-year-old and 15-year-old for a week right now. Their mother sends me an e-mail forwarded from the 15-year-old's teacher, saying that he was late to school (true, b/c he missed his bus, and I was busy taking the other one to school) and that I told him "I don't care what you do, as long as you don't kill anyone" (untrue). Well, now that little fucker's gonna have a fun weekend . . . he's gonna get to clean, and do homework, and . . . well, pretty much nothing else. No Playstation, that's for damn sure. Am I being too hard on him? Actually, I really shouldn't care, b/c I'm sick of taking care of him, so maybe this'll stave off future requests.

kelel01 1 #20 March 4, 2005 By definition, a list can (and usually does) consist of more than one item. But since I no longer remember why you were on it, you're forgiven and stricken from said list.
Slappie 9 #21 March 4, 2005 I'm sure you wouldn't be able to pull this one off. But if so it'll sure put a reminder in his brain not to lie. Find a corner in the house where the flooring is tile or vinyl. Pure out some uncooked rice or minute rice (minute works really well). Hang a piece of paper with a small circle drawn in the center. Make sure it's just above the childs head. The child must be in shorts so you get a skin on rice contact. Then instruct the child to kneel on the rice and keep their nose in the circle. They cannot use their hands to support themselves against the wall. This only needs to be done for 10-15mins 20-25 for the really blatant infractions. I promise you the child will think twice about telling a lie or getting in trouble the next time. I know this because this was my punishment when I was a teenager for lying or major fuckups. That rice hurts like a motherfucker! I only lied about 3 times until I finally caught on. wmw999 2,584 #23 March 4, 2005 The punishment has to be appropriate. One thing to include is to make him tell his mother what happened. That's gonna really hurt. Tell him now that he'll have to talk it over with her, so that he'll be tortured until she gets home. Make sure he knows that you're going to tell her your side first(then DO it), so that he won't think he can BS through it. Other than that, well, what did lying get him? Make darn sure he doesn't get the benefit of that. Then, well, I'll bet the windows haven't been washed Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
