JeffD 0 #1 March 5, 2005 I believe I have a breathing problem but I'm not sure how to word it so I will just explain what is going on. I had/have asthma but since I have been working out at least 3 times a week it has almost disappeared. (I haven't had an attack in 8 monhts, and the Dr. said he wanted to change it to "irritable airway") It seems that whenever I am doing anything "intense" my breathing rate will not increase. For example when I workout (racquetball/weights) I breathe the same, about 15-20 breaths per minute-shallow. My actual breathing pattern is as follows. (right now I'm sitting down and have done nothing yet this morning) 2 second inhale, 2 second exhale, 1 second pause, 2 second inhale..... i would say that on Inhale I am using 20% of my lung capacity. and thats about how it is anytime. When I try breathing deeply I will get dizzy, light headed, and uncomfortable. I read that this is normal and should go away but I can not get into a habbit of breathing deeper. Any suggestions or help? Thanks. BTW I'm 6'2" 257#, not in the best shape but can play racquetball for 3 hrs so I'm not too bad.
