Teens Leaping For Thrills In 'Garage Jumping' Trend

When you are aware, yet you do nothing about it, it is the same as actively condoning.

That is simply not logical. Joe Propertyowner should not have to go out of his way to prevent people from doing intentionally risky things on his property if he doesn't want to. His awareness does not equal his responsibility. Every individual is responsible for his own actions. Even if the property owner was "actively condoning" (which is ridiculous - he's not), it wouldn't matter - he's still not making the choice for the jumpers! It's their choice! He doesn't need to teach them about gravity, physics, or how hard cement is. He doesn't need to teach them how to make smart choices in their life. He just wants to own a parking garage.

In Daytona, during Spring break, the popular thing is to jump between hotel rooms. The balconies have a railing around them already. I think that is about all you can do for adults. Railings don't stop them.

The balconies are not that far apart, but it is deceptive. It is only about 5 or 6 feet, but most people cannot do a standing jump 6 feet. Most of the attempting people are also fairly drunk.

The hotels mention that it is not possible to people as they register during Spring break, but someone always dies each year.

5. Balcony jumping. If you hang from balconies while drunk, chances are you'll fall. Fall, and chances are you'll die. Avoid this by not climbing on balconies.

I've been following this post all day, and all I can say is, What happened to common sense? You are jumping from a large object, the chances are you are going to get hurt. Don't do it.

I'm just shocked that someone can be stupid enough to try stunts like jumping from balconies or jumping from a parking garage, they get hurt, and they get a lawyer and blame the owner of the building.

theGARAGE OWNER says that's not good enough and that PARENTS need to take responsibility before a garage jumper loses his life.

i wonder how long it takes retards like that to realize that the things they see on tv and the internet arent real?

and i wonder if their parents ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with their children, and hitting them?

I agree it is not logical. All I would have had to do was put up a sign saying that it is not allowed. Would have cost him $50. Going to cost him a lot more now.

Edited to add: I deal with major payouts to customers who slip and fall in my parking lot on almost a monthly basis. My property is in Canada, we get snow and ice sometimes.....still people expect a non-slippery surface to walk on. Logical...no, but not doing it costs a lot more. Logic has nothing to do with this.

The reaction to roof jumping is pretty interesting to watch. When it goes bad it is the most insain thing, when it goes well people think its amazing. I doubt the kids actually did this stuff regulary otherwise it probably would have turned up in the article.

I personally think these kids are stupid. But I just thought the contrast in reactions are interesting. Wish some people used common sense sometimes though.
