But still, it's not a good environment for them,

I disagree. Both my wife and I feel the DZ is a SPECTACULAR place to expose a child to people from all walks of life and cultures. Is there some "bad" sure, but there's that in everything...it's the parents job to help the child filter that out.

Man I am so glad this little thread has spawned such swearing!

It makes me cry :D

I am alos glad to see it degenerate into this since most of the opionions available on the matter seem to have been said.

Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

If you own a dz and do not want me or my family there, because you know we will be offended by the language you use, just let me know.

Until then, you do not own the dz and you cannot unilaterally decide that I and my family are out of place or unwelcome there and that we must put up with profanity and rudeness just because you have decided that a dz is an inappropriate place for decent people and their families.

I understand where you're coming from, I really do, but see it from the average skydiver's point of view.....

There are naked jumps sometimes at dz's and boogies......do you complain about seeing nudity or make the right choice and not put them in that environment in the first place? Do you take your kids to Hooters and complain too?

There is foul language at dz's......do you complain about the language or make the right choice and not put them in that environment in the first place? Do you take your kids to biker bars and complain too?

Are you seeing my point yet?

I see the nobility in your case here, and I respect it, but your point here is about as viable as the people trying to sue McDonalds for making them fat. If you don't want to suffer the consequences, don't eat there, fatass. B|

I don't swear around kids at the DZ. It's just not polite. We can take our conversation elsewhere, and we do! :)
I wouldn't want little 7 year old Marie not to be able to see her uncle, whom she adores, get to do a SKYDIVE (:o tandem even!! Wow!!) just because I'm so foul-mouthed that she can't have a bit of protection. It's not like the kids are everywhere, they're pretty much with relatives in the spectator area, wanting to see a relative do a tandem. I have no issue with intentionally walking around that crowd and lowering my voice if I feel the sudden need to cuss like a sailor.

I just think that's courtesy in general. ;)

The dz in question is a club and a fine one at that. The responsibility/blame does not fall on one person for the idea. It is one of the oldest skydive clubs and membership is optional.

Why should you get to decide what is appropriate for a club that you are not a member of?

dz's are alot like bars. They all serve up the same stuff but it is packaged differently. Some bars you would take your family to have dinner and some you most certainly would not.

I really do not understand what the big deal is. If you do not like the idea do not spend your money there.

Not long ago there was a boogie being promoted where the theme was vibrating sex toys; and that idea got less of debate than this boogie/promotion. The thought of people walking around with dildos at the dropzone (while I like the idea) should illicit more of an outrage/debate than a discounted tandem ride for some persons mom.

edited to add: There are alot of families at CPI. In fact I have never been to dz where there were more people related to each other than at CPI.

offer milk after the beer light goes on...

Naw, White Russians, so it looks sort of like milk but is better for you then milk. As for the language? Its a fucking DZ! If there are kids about I watch my language, if I have a student, I watch my language, BUT eitherway its an adult playground.

I agree with you here. I can be like a white Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock at the DZ at times, and I was just being silly with the MILK thing. [Tongue]

After rereading my posts, I want to clarify something here. Please do not think I am questioning your methods of parenting or abilities as a parent, because I am not in the slightest bit. I think that just caring enough to say something and show you care what your family is exposed to says a lot.

All I'm trying to say is that there are good ways to bring your children to the dz without putting them into the middle of a cuss fest or wet t-shirt contest.

Take note I am not a parent, and I'm sure it's more more complicated than this, but I would think it much better to act by educating your children about certain words they might hear and that these words are not to be used and why, rather than just complain that they are being used by others.

OR it is just the excuse the next day that they use as they are ripping you off.

I'm a lot like you. [Laugh] pass the idiot, give them an emphatic 'fuck you' finger. If they give me shit, I act like a raving lunatic with wild arm movements and wiggle my car a bit, then stomp the gas. Usually scares them enough to back off. However, chose your victims carefully. I've had a couple of them chase me some 20 miles down the interstate, off the interstate through country roads and back on the interstate before I could shake them off. [Crazy]

If you expect tolerance, you must show it to others. If you expect people to put up with your children acting like children, learn to put up with skydivers acting like skydivers.

I was kidding about the follow them and drag them out of their car part, with the exception of one time when a guy damn near killed me when I was on my motorcycle. I pulled up to him at the next stop light and he had the nerve to yell at me, I put down the kickstand and went over and punched him through his window in the middle of the traffic and was back on my bike before the light turned green. If anyone cares he pulled out of a traffic jam in the passing lane going about 5mph in a 35mph zone and I was doing 35 in the right lane when he pulled out right in front of me. I had to grab both breaks pretty hard and started to slide out the back tire when I got slowed down enough to not plow into the idiot.
