NWFlyer 2 #52 March 9, 2005 Quotewhat is it that makes you want to keep going back up? It is the most focused feeling I have in any part of my life. Once I gear up, nothing else matters. Sure, I will chat and joke and have fun on jump run, but somewhere along the line, I close my eyes, take deep breaths, and start to visualize my dive, and from that point until I've daisy-chained my lines and am walking back across the field, nothing else matters. The more I learn the more I learn how much I have to learn, and it's knowing that I'm not likely to get bored for a long time (if ever) that keeps me coming back."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

livendive 8 #55 March 9, 2005 For the same reason I stayed in special ed in school...for the chicks! Seriously though? I guess I have to echo D22369's answer. It's a unique environment to hang out with current and prospective friends. Whether I'm taking up a tandem or AFF student, doing some sort of RW (zoo, hot, or big, they're all fun), freeflying (I still suck), CRW (can even talk to friends!)...whatever. I'm sure that's not all of it, cuz I like hop & pops, swoops, and solo cross countries too, and even occasionally terrify myself with solo freefall from altitude. I guess it's just the escape. When the ground is coming up at me at 120+ mph, or a couple little straps are all that stand between me and certain death, trivial little things that seem so important down here lose their relevance. Sometimes it's an escape, sometimes it's a destination. Either way, it's a nice place to be. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Conundrum 1 #56 March 9, 2005 It's the one thing in this world that I can do and totally feel free. Nothing on my mind can take away the happiness I feel when I'm at the dropzone or in the air jumping. Some people understand, some people dont'.
