GTAVercetti 0 #51 March 10, 2005 QuoteQuote I smoke, but I really like noit smelling like smoke. Pop (and others with this kind of comment) take it from someone that has gone almost 2 years without a cig. If you smoke, you smell like smoke, period. It doesn't matter if you are smoking inside or out. I, for one, would vote for a National indoor ban. I agree on a ban. I smoke on ocassion and used ot smoke alot...but I want to go to bars without reeking after I am done. Expecially now that my sense of smell is back from not smoking so much and I can tell I smell horrible. As for this "impeding on smoker's rights" stuff, what about the rights of people who want to go to FUN bars (ie, not applebees ) and not have to breathe secondhand smoke? When someone does not smoke, they are not FORCING clean air in someone's throat, but the opposite is not true. And pop, RevJim is right, if you smoke, you will smell like it. I just could not tell till I actually stopped for awhile. Now, when my roommate comes back in, I can smell him from across the house. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
Smeger 0 #52 March 10, 2005 I'm confused over some peoples priorities. The amount of pollution caused by vehicle exhausts is FAR more of a threat to public health than second-hand smoke. Its bad enough in London. Walking down Oxford Street on a busy Saturday afternoon, for 1 hour is the equivalent of smoking 10 cigarettes in a row. I imagine that is it is much worse in the larger American cities like New York and LA.
Slappie 9 #53 March 10, 2005 QuoteQuoteAgain BULLSHIT.. According to the American Cancer Society, "secondhand smoke is the third leading preventable cause of death in the U.S. killing 38,000 to 65,000 nonsmokers every year." Why would you want to take part in something that could kill your friends and family? I understand skymama, I really do. I'm totaly against goverment regulation of a legal passtime. I shouldn't be threatend with fines or imprisonment for doing something the goverment gives me the right to do. Let's not get me wrong. I run into day cares puffing on 4 cigarettes all the time. Blowing smoke in childrens faces laughing and hacking up my lungs on the playground. I do my part for the cancer research industry. Seriously, I know where and when to lite up. I prefer the non-smoking sections when I go out to eat. These laws don't bother me really. The only one that would trully effect me is the one restricting my smoking in a bar. That's an adult establishment and the owners should make the desicion they don't want smoking in their place of business. Not the goverment telling them they can't have smokers in their business. I'm even arguing this fact, when I've set my day to quit smoking as April 4th. You would assume, I love this no-smoking regulation. Will make it easier for me to quit. Less temptation when I go out.. Wrong. I'm totaly against goverment regulation of smoking. NWFlyer 2 #55 March 10, 2005 There's enough cool bars around here that have chosen to be non-smoking that it's very possible for me to get a drink without dealing with smoke. I'm kind of resigned to it in the clubs, though - if I want to see live music, unless it's at one of the theaters, I deal with smoke. (Although I've actually seen a few club shows where it was non-smoking at the request of the performer themselves). I'd rather not deal with the smoke, but I've kind of accepted it as part of the lifestyle I choose to lead. I'll walk away from it if it's uncomfortable, and I won't allow people to smoke in my home and in my car."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
