Do other states have this kind of law? Only one delegate voted against it-the reason being that it didn't give an age limit on the "nursee".

That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §16-1-19, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 1. STATE PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM.

§16-1-19. Child's right to nurse: Location where permitted; right protected.

(a) Breast feeding is an important, basic act of nurturing that is protected in the interests of maternal and child health. A mother may breast feed a child in any location, public or private, where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be.

NOTE: This bill protects a mother's right to breast feed a child in any location where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be.

That's a great law. I'm glad to see they recognise the importance of breast feeding. I think it's actually sad that laws like this have to be passed to begin with.

I had no idea until it came up that there was so much hassling going on. I mean, I've never seen a woman just sit down and "whip it out" to feed their baby.
One of the proponents of the bill said someone told her she should go to the ladies room to nurse, and she asked if they would like to eat in the bathroom. 'Nuff said!

I think a mother breast feeding her baby is one of the most beautful and natural acts there is. I take issue with people who don't see it that way. Why would they be offended?

I believe it's law here in NY as well.

That said a friends wife helps in a nursery school three, four and five year olds. This last fall when school started a new kid who was four at the time came up to her and asked for it. His mother was still nursing him at four. I think that when there old enough to ask for it then it's gone to far.
