I went to South Padre Island/Mexico for my senior trip at 17. Those places are out of control during Spring Break. Don't get me wrong I had a freaking kick ass time but that isn't any place I would want my little bundle of sunshine to be.

The year I went, MTV was down there. Wheew, the stories I could tell :$

Omigosh-16? My daughter probably wouldn't have come back if I'd let her go at that age! You didn't hava an option for 25 yrs old-and only then if she has some sense~~~

I went down there 2 or 3 years ago for spring break too. I probably shouldn't have been there (was 18 at the time). I've never seen so much beer consumed in such a short time. I did get some interesting video though

I say 18 and it is only because that is the legal drinking age in Mexico. Although the policia will most likely turn a blind eye, they may choose not to if they see the opportunity to extract some cash and Mexico is not a fun place to be in trouble.

Its not just that, but that IS a valid point.

Its also very easy for a young girl to get herself in a situation with a guy that she won't be able to get out of. If she agrees to a walk on a quiet beach, he'll assume she's agreeing to more. I made my first trip to Mexico in my mid 30s and I was fighting waiters off me! They love to flirt, they're horny and they think all American girls/ women are easy! (sorry to generalize, but the waiters especially in the resort areas are pretty notorious!) At my age, the attention was flattering and the flirting was fun, but I doubt I could have handled that at 16.

Gawd, I feel so old now! :$

Geez, whatever happened to kids going to Disney World? :S Sixteen year olds don't have the emotional maturity to handle the type of situations she may end up in on Spring Break, especially in a foreign country.

College, at least.
It is nothing but trouble.
If she does go, make sure she NEVER travels alone even in a cab.

16 years old it too young. I would say 18 or older. She's not mature enough to handle herself in the adult situations she's going to find herself in. Specially in Mexico where drinking laws are pretty lax. At 18 she's an "adult" in the eyes of the world. So hopefully she's matured enough to understand what's going on. And that guy buying her beers and asking her to do these shots, only wants to get her drunk and in bed.

If she's going with adult supervision, I might consider it. Without.. NO F'n WAY!

Whoa, dude. It's illegal to take a 16 year old across state lines without parental permission. Even with permission, why would anyone thing that allowing a 16 year old girl to go the Mexico with some friends is a good idea? :S

I'm gonna go with a big NO on that one. It's not the time nor place to be going. When I was 16 I went on a spring break to California, stayed with my friends mom on the beach and just drove around. There is no reason she needs to go to Cancun (assuming that's where they're going). If she was going to Mexico City to see the piramids and stay with family, that's fine, but alone, Cancun no.

Even with her living in foreign countries it's not the same. I lived in Brazil my ripe years. Grew up in a city of 24million. My friend's dad got shot in the face during a car jacking, I was robbed, my parents were robbed, my uncle kidnapped. It doesn't matter, what goes on in Cancun a 16 yr old, especially female, does not need to be getting herself into.

Tequilla can make you do the darndest things, I'm sure she hasn't experienced all the drinking and everything else that goes on...

Just my $.02, I don'thave kids, but I have an 11 and 4 yr old sisters that I treat as if they were my own

Dude,
I travel to Mexico a lot. As a matter of fact I leave this Sunday for 2 weeks again. I would have to say "NO F#CKING WAY". This assuming there is no parental guidance, which is the way I read your post. If she is travelling with trusted adult guardians and you know they will look closely after her then that would be a different decision, personally they would have to be people that I trust to a level that could not be communicated in words.
