I get 5 sick days a year and we can roll them over up to 20 banked. Well I've only ever banked 10.

I call them "sick n tired" days and I'll do it maybe twice or three times a year. Most of the time I schedule a vacation day if I know I need a day off. I'll turn a regular weekend into a 3 day weekend.

I have to admit, there are some days after a major project that's wrecked me I'll call in "sick n tired" ... my boss normally knows when it's one of those days and he's pretty cool about it.

I would never, ever do that.
Especially not when right before a huge deadline.
That would just be wrong.

Hell yes I have taken "mental health" days. I teach high school freshmen. Sometimes you just need a break.

I'm a contractor now. Really........I can take off whenever I want. I just don't get paid for it. . Of course.....I don't see me calling in sick much in Baghdad.

Hell yeah -

Even though I run the department, I know my guys can handle whatever comes up.

I've been known to call my lead man and tell him I have a case of "ground poisoning". (Also known as "Blue Sky Fever"-) As long as all is going well, it's no problem!
