BASE813 0 #1 March 13, 2005 It seems that many police departments keep their logs publically available. Although most are not publically advertised on their sites, with a search on google you are able to find them. Now although police records are public information (I believe), some of these logs state the name and address of people who have reported an offence and the person arrested. Surely having it public knowledge is perhaps not something sensible, perhaps the people reporting crimes dont realise that they are there for the world to see. I happened to stumble on this and just thought that this is the sort of information you should not be seeing on the internet, what do others think? an example of one that I found with a google search http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=setandget&tp=218681&poll_id=0&category_id=20&warned=y
cameramonkey 0 #2 March 13, 2005 why not? Like you said, it IS public record. Besides, most local papers publish the same info daily or weekly, so its already out there for the public to see. Pretty much a non-issue IMHO If you dont want your name published, dont do something stupid/illegal and you wont end up in that list. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO! BASE813 0 #5 March 13, 2005 QuoteIf you dont want your name published, dont do something stupid/illegal and you wont end up in that list. This is my point, the names and addresses of people reporting crimes are in these logs. Do local papers publish the name and address of the person reporting the crime? If you reported someone for a crime, would you really like them to know who your are and where you live?
cameramonkey 0 #6 March 13, 2005 oooh... didnt notice that in your post. I thought you were complaining about the names of the perps... such as "larry brown, 123 main street, arrested for drunk driving" thats an interesting poser. although, if the perp wanted the info, they could still get it if they wanted. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO! op5e 0 #8 March 14, 2005 I think it sucks. Some people thought we dobbed on them for smashing up OUR fence and hence they got a bloody pigs corpse from a butchers and put it on the front yard. And that is not even calling the police and just taking our fence being screwed up on the chin. Could you imagine if they got put away for 2 years for a bigger crime etc.. I mean there was one time when someone assulted me (not even a bruse but intent was there). The coppers then found him on the next train and said he was wanted for a hit and run in a stolen car to name just a few offences (12 in total i think). I think he would have liked to know who got him busted, as it is fairly easy to track someone down once you have a name.
