Sex offenders in your neighborhood

Recommended Posts

If I know someone is a sexual offender, you can bet I'm going to keep my eye on him/her.

Okay, I don't think that's different than anyone else. There is a huge difference between being cautious about known risks and wasting time on it. Going out of your way because of the known risks wastes time because the unknown risks far outweigh the known.

Would I bake cookies for someone who raped a 14 year old? No. Would I suddenly lock my doors and keep a watchful eye on my nephews when I babysit? No because I already do that. When I babysit them, I assume everyone is out to get them. Knowing who has done it in the past doesn't mean they're any safer.

Phree, of course I am concerned about that as well. The data that is readily available pertains to sex offenders, and that it the topic at hand. I understand where you are going with this and it opens up many other doors for discussion. We can't touch on it all - for instance, I can't screen every visitor my neighbor brings in either, right??? I'm just talking as a mother, protecting her kids, based on the information available on our most immediate threat.

Besides, my kids are grown up now and are off in college. I worry more about my rig when I'm not at home.:D

LOL

That is like saying, " just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they're not watching you."

Let's say there are 1,000 sex offenders in your state (let's just say 100 of those live in your area.) Of those 100 that live in your area, only 2 of them have actually been convicted and are "known." You have no idea of who the other 98 are.

It makes me uncomfortable. I've checked the database and there are two who live in the apartment complex next door to mine. I've been a little more careful about locking doors and windows.

It makes me nervous, but I won't deny these people the chance to live their life after they've served their time.

Val, are you telling me that if you knew there was a known sex offender around you, you wouldn't watch him?

If someone has been brought to my attention, you can bet, I'm keeping an eye on him/her.

So you feel that it is ok that because of what they did - an inconvienience to you is no problem.

Hmmm - hence - I live in the country away from as many people as I can.

Oh - and convictions RARELY mean "potentially" it USUALLY means PROVEN.

2 out of 2 females in my household have been the victim of a sexual predator..

I hate the idea that they can live anywhere, I am intimately familiar with the mentality of a child molestor and I know we're not safe. But they are everywhere.. so I moved out to the country (10 miles from everywhere) where I can SHOOT any S.O.B. that comes within 1 acre of me or my kid. POSTED!!! KEEP OUT!!!

Now you're talking. I will do what ever it takes to protect my children.

If you want to live someplace free of all potentially violent people, you'd have to live in the middle of nowhere.

I live in AMish Country and there's 18 offenders in this town[:/] (they all moved here from somewhere else)
