Tonto 1 #1 March 16, 2005 A recent thread asked "What's cool?" Some people said "People who do everything are cool!" Others felt these were "Jack of all trades and masters of none." When I started skydiving, there was RW, (Formation skydiving) CRW, (Canopy Formation) and the old farts were doing Style and Accuracy. (Loopers) Instructors were Static Line. AFF came later. Then came Freeflying(Poncy dance stuff in tights) and later skysurfing (Death on a stick - wearing tights) Camera people started to fly into things and hook stuff accidently on their heads and die... And then Swooping... with 911 divot replacement. Then freeflying came... and with people on their heads... Speed Skydiving.... and with people going fast, came those who wanted slow... so... Birdman - or wingsuits if you prefer.. So what have you done? What do you do? Vote on those. Please don't vote on what you want to do - cos we all want to do it all. Me? I did Static Line, then FS, got into a 4 way competition team till about 1000 dives, got AFF and Tandem ratings, competed at the world meet in canopy formation, got enough pics doing freestyle and skysurfing to be embarrased about them today, did a couple of 100 camera dives, mainly for AFF, Tandem and 4 way, started to freefly, got into Birdman and have been swooping since my 5 cell Swift 177 was new gear. You? tIt's the year of the Pig.

I've been to Nationals, but since I have a different goal for something else right now, I haven't done four way in about a year.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Tonto 1 #5 March 16, 2005 QuoteCan we vote on what we used to do? Yes! What you used to do, and what you do now. I don't do freestyle, Skysurf, Camera or Tandem anymore, but I voted for them. tIt's the year of the Pig.
nacmacfeegle 0 #6 March 16, 2005 "You?" Exit an aircraft, smile, deploy parachute, land somewhere, drink beer, tell tall tales, laugh some more. If people want to attach labels to that, or further divide the tribe, then thats fair with me.... Too many games to play, too many toys to try, too many people to have fun with, can't be arsed with labels.I think the phrase...Its all good applies.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Tonto 1 #7 March 16, 2005 Well then you'd better be really careful. If you whistle in and die - you're going to fuck up my poll. Be safe. tIt's the year of the Pig.
kelel01 1 #8 March 16, 2005 I think you missed a big one . . . not that I do it. Swooping. So far, I really only freefly. I would like to try Birdman someday, and swooping someday WAY in the future.
Tonto 1 #9 March 16, 2005 You're right. I missed out swooping. The reason for this is that it's so subjective. I see people yahooing and whooping for swoops that would cause me to simply go home and slit my wrists if I swooped like that, and I'm sure those on the PST feel the same way about me. No swooping. tIt's the year of the Pig.
gremlin 0 #10 March 16, 2005 If people tick style and accuracy can their name be revealed so we can sent them e-sympathy and articles on modern skydiving I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
Tonto 1 #11 March 16, 2005 Then what do we give to the Para-Ski and Shoot and Chute crowd? tIt's the year of the Pig.
kelel01 1 #12 March 16, 2005 Style and accuracy is just accuracy landings, right? If so, I would just send them a bunch of cartilage for their knees. I feel so bad for the Silver Wings at my dz when I see them holding in deep brakes to hit that little target.
Tonto 1 #13 March 16, 2005 That would be... "I don't do any of this stuff. I just hang out and do solo's." tIt's the year of the Pig.
Chrissay 0 #14 March 16, 2005 Let's see, I started out flatflying, was on a 4 way team for two years (still LOVE RW), fly camera, mostly freefly now, base jumping, have done a handful of freestyle and am working on my swooping. and there is sooo much more I want to do.... KrisFlyZ 0 #15 March 16, 2005 I think they had to do some moves in freefall before deploying and landing as accurately as possible. Do these guys have bad knees despite the tuffet? Kris.

kelel01 1 #17 March 16, 2005 We don't have a tuffet. They land on a flat target on the ground.
Tonto 1 #18 March 16, 2005 Well, instead of a "bunch of cartilage" you may consider an accuracy tuffet? I think they're more expensive than they look though. tIt's the year of the Pig.

kelel01 1 #20 March 16, 2005 They're army guys. I guess the army has decided all they need is a flat target on the ground. I don't know if they really care one way or the other.
Amazon 7 #21 March 16, 2005 I voted Freefly which I can do moderately well now.. well at least in a sitfly.. My Head down skillz just cant overcome my superior ability to SPEED SKYDIVE. Some days I just like to get out and dance (freestyle) in the sky. I have even hooked up an MP3 player in one of my helmets. I found when doing this its best to limit the music to less than 45 seconds I LOVE doing BIGWAYS when I can.. and again since I am gravity challenged.. even with my big suit.. I can always help the base go nice and fast. For some reason the people docking later seem to like the base falling faster than 105 MPH I can usually be seen with a camera on my head.. so since I am in the base often... we call it FUNNEL CAM...which for some reason just seems to happen sometimes... There are times... especially up here in WA or down in OR when I just HAVE to get full alti.. and just toss right out the door... and watch the setting sun with the huge snow capped volcanos of the Cascades around me. skybytch 273 #24 March 16, 2005 I did Static Line student jumps, got an S/L JM rating 8 months after my first jump and a year later an S/L I rating, taught several hundred first jump courses, threw several hundred static line jumpers out of the plane, did a little over 100 tandems. I got a senior riggers ticket and I packed sport, student and tandem reserves and mains for a couple years. I was an S&TA for awhile and ran an S/L JM and I certification course. With a couple of friends I organized a small off-DZ boogie. I sold gear for 7 years and owned part of a gear store. I currently help build jumpsuits. I'm a current world record holder on my belly (131 way FAI and 132 way Guiness - JFTC '02), attempted to get a 4 way team going last year and competed once. I freefly badly. I've done a handful of wingsuit jumps and love tracking dives. I did 10 or so CRW jumps, four camera jumps and I've done a few demos. And there's still so much more I want to do!
