Two great new comedies: "The Anchorman" and "Napolean Dynamite"

It's about damn time some good comedies came out.

"The Anchorman" was freaking hilarious. If you liked the first few years of Will/Parnell/Wells, etc, when Adam McKay was lead writer on SNL, then you'll love this movie. NO plot. I hate comedies with plots. They spend half the movie being funny, and the other half trying to resolve a plot that sucked to begin with. This movie is just absurd from start to finish. The laugh to running time ratio was exceptionally high.

For another nearly plotless film that uses more subtlety and highbrow humor, check out "Napolean Dynamite". Great movie. It's funny in the same way that "Rushmore" was funny, but the two movies can't really be compared otherwise.

"The Anchorman" draws more laughs, but often reaches low to get them. Whereas "Napolean Dynamite" can be appreciated as a good film. I highly recommend both for anyone that's getting sick of the Lorne Michaels formula.

I just watched Napolean Dynamite for the first time last night. Flippin hilarious. Laughed from begining to end, completely pointless movie. I think its my new favorite.

LOL - I Watched Napoleon Dynamite with another skydiver last night. We both agreed that it was almost as bad as Anchorman. I also voiced a concern about the direction of comedies these days, based specifically on these two films. I thought they both sucked out loud.

I saw it last week and didn't really like it. However, a number of people I know thought it was hilarious. It seems to be one of those movies that you either love or hate.

If you are drunk, stoned, or in the mood for mindless humor then I would recommend them.

If you're totally sober and sane then you probably won't find humor in those two movies.

It's been a while since I've seen a movie that polarizes people as much as "Napolean Dynamite." Our whole family loved it, but several friends thought it blew. Maybe you just need to be in the mood for pointless, geeky humor. Seems we know a few people straight out of that movie. I don't like when Kip sings at his wedding, though. That's too painful, even for me.

"Anchorman" was okay. I don't think the writing was that strong, but Will Farrel was able to pull it off.

I rented these two movies at the same time.

I started to watch Anchor Man, and when it got to the jazz flute scene I couldn't take anymore and had to turn it off. Will Ferrell doesn't belong at the center of a movie. He was funny in Old School and Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, but he makes you sick of him after about half an hour.

Napoleon Dynamite I thought was well done, but it's not going to rub everyone the same way.

Noooo...Anchorman sucked big time!!!! I couldn't even finish the whole thing.

Napolean Dynomite, on the other hand, while still being pretty stupid, had a few laughable moments here and there.

I got Anchorman on a friend's reccomendation a few weeks ago and while it had its moments i was left thinking that maye i could have spent the time doing something else.

I've yet to see Napolean Dynamite.

Joe and I kept waiting...and waiting...and waiting...to laugh. We both kept saying "This movie can't POSSIBLY suck this bad. It just can't!"

Sorry to say, out of pure curiosity (kind of like when you look at the scene of an accident on the highway for a stretcher), we actually finished the whole damn thing.

When it ended we just looked at each other and said "Wha?????" Somebody freaking paid money to make this steaming pile of donkey shit?"

Oh, but it had some good parts! end credits.
