When to update jump numbers on DZ.com?

Recommended Posts

I round the numbers I have in my profile. When I had about 1370 jumps I just put 1400 jumps since 30 jumps really doesn't make much of a difference overall and now I have 1443 jumps (as of the 5 jumps I did today) and I started to wonder...when should I put 1450 or should I continue to leave it until 1500 (which I should have in under 2 weeks according to my normal jump tempo and the tandem schedule)?

When do you update your DZ.com profile jump numbers? Every 50 jumps? every 100 jumps? every 200 jumps?

I think you need to be punished for having dealt with these numbers so liberally in the past and now should have to update them one-at-a-time.

So start incrementing the numbers by 1:P

To each their own. I can understand why a tandem whipping boy like yourself doesn't keep his DZ.COM numbers up to date because you guys can get a lot of jumps in, in a short period of time. But I always update my DZ.COM profile after a certain day, weekend or week of jumping (whenever it is convienient). So when I say that I've made 879 skydives, you'll know that I've done 879 skydives. But I do add my skydives and BASE jumps into a total and will tell people that I've made over {insert a number here} jumps. In fact I may not have made my 900th skydive yet. But I did jump a cross-braced canopy for the first time on my 900th jump. :$

Of course I have 5 skydives from last weekend and another 5 BASE jumps from the weekend before which still need to be logged on paper before I forget what happened on those jumps. :S

What the deal is, is that I'm a TI and so I do a lot of tandems and a shitload of hop and pops.

Why?

I LOVE doing tandems and they pay the bills (barely and not all the way every month but that still means I'm jumping) and hop&pops are cheap and all I care to do if I don't get to do a tandem is go swoop.

Eitherway over the past year the ratio of tandems to sport jumps has definately favored tandems.

Lucky for me that I fucking live for doing tandems and getting to take a student on a tandem jump makes my day.:)
(I'm serious, I freak'n love tandems).B|

I never round up. Thin as the margin may be, I don't want people to think I'm padding my numbers.

When chatting to students, or when asked, I'll always round down to the last 50. So, at 4533, I'll say 4500. when I'm on 4580, it'll be 4550.

On this site, since I'm here so often, and have so much time..:$ I do it every 10 jumps, for both my total and my wingsuit dives. I've done this since the "numbers only" rule prevented me from putting a "+" in. Back then it was every 100 that I updated.

For number of swoops - every 100 dives I add another 100 swoops. All the canopies I jump are swoopable, and if conditions are not swoopable, I don't jump.

EVERY jump is precious to me...I update my jump numbers as soon as I go on dz.com after the weekend:|

Ditto. Hopefully someday I'll have so many jumps I'll have to ask the same questions you're asking AD. hehe But right now every jump means a great deal to me! :)

I agree totally. I hope I never get to the day that I am so hum/drum about my numbers that I don't get TOTALLY psyched about those odd numbers...like my 342 right now. :P

To me, skydiving is a miracle and an honor. I want to respect every jump I am allowed to make and give it the credit it is due.

If I get to the point that I stop feeling this way, you will see a beautiful, totally matching CRW rig for sale on dz.com. It's then time to quit the sport.

Usually every weekend, and as can be seen, I list each one. Why? Because, pertcentage wise, each one of my jumps is a greater part of my total skydiving career. In my low jump number world, 170 is NOT 200. :)
Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

I get psyched about jumping and could really care less about numbers. To tell you a little secret I haven't updated my paper log in around 200 jumps either. I keep an electronic log with my Neptune, but I really don't care about truely keeping a log.

I really love jumping, I love taking people on tandems and I love getting to go play on sport jumps. I just get grumpy when it comes to logging.:P

I update after every weekend of jumping.. Since I update my paper logbook monthly based on my ProTrack and mostly i use an Excel spreadsheet, it is like one more backup.. just in case my other electronic stuff gets totally fubared.. It would be just my luck to be 100 jumps behind logging and have my ProTrack and hard drive die the same week.. :P

I have come to the conclusion that AggieDave doesn't have enough to worry about. If this is the worst thing that is bothering you - geez, I'm jealous.

Naw, I just like to take a break sometimes and "worry" about some trivial little things to take my mind off of real life for a bit.:)
