fireflytx 0 #1 March 21, 2005 Someone please help? Ok So I got the dual layer burner. The software that came with it is Nero. OK this is where I start getting crazy. I make a regualr size, 4.7 gig dvd first to see if that works. Ok did the program, great , went awesome. Now I go to put 2 hours and 30 minutes on a dual layer dvd figuring, ok I know the other ones say 2 hous but really at good quality you can only get like 1 and a half hours so I figure at worst I will fit 3 hours of good quality on a dual layer dvd. NOPE, 2 and a half hours went way over the 8.5 gigs. So I tried a simple menu and lessen the quality a touch and the only way it would fit was at the worse quality and it came out looking like hell! HELP! How can I make at least three hours (or more) fit with good quality??????? This is so frustrating!"Well behaved women rarely make history"

superman0710 0 #5 March 21, 2005 the problem here isn't the length it's the filesize. you're going to have find a good compression utility. Either straight mpeg compression or avi -> mpeg compression.

fireflytx 0 #9 March 21, 2005 It doesn't appear that with this program you can take a already made mpg and compress it. Am I missing something when trying to do this? I am not taking files off of a dvd. I am taking my old vhs, going through my video camera and capturing it in Nero as a mpg."Well behaved women rarely make history"

kelpdiver 2 #12 March 22, 2005 Do you intend to play this on a standalone DVD player? If so, .mpg isn't going to do the job anyway. Needs to be in .vob form - essentially same mpeg2 stuff, but more info for the player to use. DVD shrink can compress an oversized DVD format, don't know if it will take a mpeg file directly. The dual layer DVD is described as being a 2 hour form, with the 4.7s as 1hr at the high end for bit quality. Depending on your definition of quality video, 3 hours isn't going to fit well. Given the hassle and the cost of dual layers, I've opted to stick to single sideds. Hard to beat 40cents a unit versus what, 6-8$?
RevJim 0 #13 March 22, 2005 OK, this isn't the best way, but it WILL work. You said you have Nero. What shipped with the burner is probably also Nero. In Start>Programs>Nero there shoulod be a Nerovision or Nerovision express program. Open it. Make a new movie, and load all the mpg's you want on one disk in it. When you are all done authoring, in the burn screen, click the BurnTo button in the upper right, and select Image Recorder. This will create a DVD image on your hard drive. You can then use DVDShrink to open and compress thatimage file, and then return to Nero to burn it.It's your life, live it! nacmacfeegle 0 #14 March 22, 2005 Have you been to the 'afterdawn' guides I linked to? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1532634#1532634 They are apparently very good.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. fireflytx 0 #15 March 22, 2005 The guides helped a bit along with the help of a bunch of other people. I almost got it. I just need to know of a good converter program. I have tried a few but they all seem to suck in one way or another. The last one the sound didn't sync up with the video. WHAT IS A GOOD SIMPLE CONVERTER PROGRAM???? This is very frustrating.
