superman0710 0 #1 March 22, 2005 8:00pm-9:00pm EST synopsis: BASE is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth. These are the things BASE jumpers like Jeb Corliss leap off of, to the chagrin and consternation of authorities and their loved ones. The sport first took shape in the late 1970's after a group of experimental skydivers began making regular jumps off El Capitan in Yosemite. An underground network of thrill-seekers has evolved to the fringe of the mainstream. The leading risk-taker in this extreme sport was Dwain Weston, an Australian-born computer programmer who died while pursuing his passion. Both Dwain and his best friend, Jeb, had made hundreds of BASE-jumps off buildings, bridges and cliffs. Dwain introduced Jeb to the rush. They were inseparable. They were in the air together when Dwain struck a bridge during a jumping exhibition in Colorado. Inexplicably, Jeb continues to BASE jump. He's survived more than a thousand jumps already. He's also been arrested a few times while pursuing his passion. i already set my tivo.

CanuckInUSA 0 #3 March 22, 2005 If this is the same show which aired a couple of months ago about Jeb (which it sounds like), it's worth watching. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

CanuckInUSA 0 #5 March 22, 2005 Quotetoo bad we dont have that channel I taped it the last time it aired. Are you AggieDave's Morgan? If yes, then I could always send you a copy if you really wanted to see it. Then again I'm not so sure how OLN would feel about this. BASE jumping means many different things to many different jumpers. But this show does a good job of getting into Jeb's mind and explaining why he jumps. It's worth seeing for the people curious about BASE jumpers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Is the show you are talking about the one they aired on ESPN? They did a little segment on base jumping a couple of months ago. I can't remember if the guys name was Jeb. The Original Cabana Boy! CanuckInUSA 0 #8 March 22, 2005 QuoteJust glad it is Jeb and not Miles. Who the world famous Miles Dasher? I got to meet Miles last summer at the bridge in potato-ville and he really is a nice guy. He's a very talented jumper and well he knows a thing or two about jumping that we could all learn from as well. He's just a little misunderstood by some that's all. QuoteIs the show you are talking about the one they aired on ESPN? No I never did catch that one. lifewithoutanet 0 #11 March 22, 2005 QuoteJust glad it is Jeb and not Miles. I'll second what Canuck said. Miles is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Ran into him in the hotel lobby at Bridge Day and commended him on the sick shit he and Shane pulled off that day. Care to guess how much time he spent discussing 'his jump'? About long enough to say "thanks" and then he was asking how mine went, how long I've been jumping, etc. BASE means different things to different people, and everyone has their own motives (yes, some even get paid for it), but I haven't met one jumper whose reasons don't include the fact that they just plain love it. Maybe you don't agree with everything he does or how he does it, but I have a feeling you'd enjoy watching some stuff he and the rest of the RedBull guys have put together, regardless of your politics. But, to the main subject of the post... The show on Jeb is incredibly well done and offers wonderful insight into what BASE means to him. -C.

jimbarry 0 #13 March 23, 2005 if you haven't seen it yet, check out the BASE section of SkydivingMovies.com. some incredible stuff there. gotta hand it to those folks.
SkiD_PL8 0 #14 March 23, 2005 Wow, is all I can say. One thing I find very interesting is the fact that dwain and jeb were apparently very good friends and even after the way dwain died jeb wants to land a wingsuit. I have wanted to BASE since not long after I started skydiving but the urge has never been as strong as it is right now. I can't explain it, after seeing that I just went out on my balcony and leaned over the edge and looked at the ground for probably 10 minutes, definitely one of the most moving shows I have ever watched. Greenie in training.

CanuckInUSA 0 #16 March 23, 2005 QuoteI have wanted to BASE since not long after I started skydiving but the urge has never been as strong as it is right now. Be smart about it. Learn how to fly your canopy very very well before you try a BASE jump. Things happen faster and at lower altitudes in that environment. It is a good show though.
