freeflir29 0 #10 March 21, 2005 Quote Must be the low alt. ....but how fast is the plane going???? 128 Knts +/- 5. Training jumps are at 1200 Ft or so and combat jumps can be LOW. I had a friend that jumped into Panama at 495 Ft. The Brits have a system where you can get out at about 200 Ft but the jump run is REALLY fast. I think around 200 Knts. freeflir29 0 #13 March 21, 2005 Quote jesus, it looks like half the battle would be trying to regroup after the jumprun spreads you out all over hell. Heheheheheee..........My FIRST jump with the 82nd Emperial Airborne Division........Night, Mass Tac, putting a Task Force sized element onto Sicily. (About 1300 people with all the trucks and arty tubes and other crap too.) I land......walk about 1/2-3/4 of a mile to the TACC rally point. Pic up my spot in the clock defense. Lean against my ruck. For the next 4-5 hours I listened to the command element trying to get everything squared away. The absolute funniest one was the S-4 (Supply Officer) He kept calling his guys... S-4- "Say status of the heavy drops" (Trucks that they had dropped) NCO- We found one and are de-rigging it. We're still looking for the other one. That in and of itself isn't that funny........but the conversation went EXACTLY the same for the next 4-5 hours. Never changed. God was I relieved when we finally got off our asses and walked out! So..........yes...........Conventional force jumps are basically the world's LARGEST cluster fuck!

Hipwrddude 0 #19 March 22, 2005 Had a friend in the Rangers, broke his back from a streamer. Fully recovered but they released him on disability. Spent two years in the civilian life then went back in. This joke may be beat (or a scud) anyways... "How many jumps does a combat parachutist have to make until he's combat ready?" Every one.
