Class Project, Please Read!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I'm a student at USC in Los Angeles. For a film class project, I have to develop an idea for a documentary on a sub-culture or world that interests me. I've chosen skydiving/extreme sports as my world. I'm going to have to do a lot of research and conduct a few interviews, and I'm definitely going to do my very first dive as part of my research (also because I've wanted to do it forever;)) If anyone reading this has any stories (how you got into it, why you keep doing it, something cool/wierd/scary that has happened) I would really appreciate it if you'd email them to me. Also, if you live in the Los Angeles/Southern California area and have interesting stories about skydiving or other extreme sports, I'd love to interview you in person. Send me an email if any of this interests you. I really appreciate any help you're willing to give! Thanks!

Jess

Go to the History and Trivia forum and read "Scary stories from the old days."

Although they are "old stories" >:( they're still really good. Quite honestly the best thread in the history of DZ.com.

Hello...I'm an AFF student.

I'm writing an online journal about my Quest to Become A Skydiver.

On my second tandem jump, I had a high speed ass slide.

On jump #7, I broke my ankle.

I'm in the process of updating my journal and hope to get it up to date by the end of March.

I went back and did jump 8 and also jump 9.

If you'd like to know more, email me.
Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Hi JBlackwell,

I needed a good father’s day gift for my 35 year old husband, so I signed us both up for our first tandems. He awoke on father’s day to the alarm clock going off and a father’s day card with his appt. card inside. He was ecstatic. We arrived at the dropzone to the concerned smiles of parents (on both sides) brothers, sisters…. who were in-the-know and had come to watch. It was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Oooops – we were both immediately hooked. Now we’re licensed and usually up at the dropzone every weekend (even when we can’t afford to jump).

Our kids are now dropzone kids, and our 5 yr old is in love with one of the packers.

Good luck on your project, and scream all you want on that first tandem (no one can hear you).;)

Skydiving is something I had always wanted to do. And well, here I am:)
I'm not sure if there is this sub-culture world. In my everyday life, I tend to not talk about skydiving too much. Heck where I work, there aren't a lot of people that know I even skydive.

Keep us posted on your jump and how it goes.
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
