How much is your gym membership?

Recommended Posts

$35. My gym's pretty low-frills but has everything I need, tons of classes, is 6 blocks from my house, and is open late enough that it works with my schedule.

I've got a Bally's membership that cost a small fortune when I joined- that was almost 15 years ago. I paid up front for a 3 year membership (3K give or take) and didn't read the fine print on the contract- what they quoted as an ANNUAL renewal fee was actually monthly. It was a ripoff, but now I only pay about $100.00 a year and I can go to any club in the area. I feel sort of locked into it because I've already paid so much for it and now its cheap but there are much better gyms out there. Even the local Y has better facilities than the Bally's closest to my house!

Do read the fine print of any contracts or agreements you sign and think carefully before making any long term commitments.

can;t you just workout outside?

I'm thinking the landlord would be pissed if i stored free weights, exercise equipment, and a swimming pool in the parking lot. :P

I know it's been done before, but i want some current info. So those of you that belong to health clubs/gyms, what do you pay per month?

$0!!!!! It's a perk, along with food. Isn't that a swell student benefit??? I think so.

Peace~

Our YMCA moved to the other side of the city and it's pretty far away now. Plus they said the membership isn't good for other YMCAs anymore. I'll just keep calling places and set up some tours for next week. I guess i need to suck it up and pay whatever it costs for a nice facility. Gold's Gym is $46/mo with $100 sign up fee, but it's super duper close to home. I'm checking it out next week, but i'm kinda hoping to find something cheaper.

Convenience is key. I know I don't need ANY other excuses to not go to the gym! The fact that my gym is 6 blocks from my house makes it really hard to argue with myself that it's too much effort to get there!

Be sure to ask about deals - you never know when they'll offer you one.

The convenience factor is very appealing to me. Right now i pay $29/mo to Curves, but the hours suck. With my new work hours i can hardly ever get to Curves to work out. Paying an extra $17/mo is doable, especially for a pool. :)

$26.99/mo. I get there at 5:15am. It's the only one in town.

....with a capital P and that rhymes with T and that spells TROUBLE!!!

I've called a few places close to where i live and the average is around $45/mo and $75ish sign up fee. I wish we had a 24hr place here. Ugh.

FYI - Pricewise, there's a place off of 116, facility wise, the Riverplex was best.

I swear to Bob (Hitchhikers Guide reference) that I only pay $2 a month. B|B|

My wife had a membership at a small gym which ran a promo for spouses. For an additional 2 bucks a month, and the #$^& sign up fee, you could add a spouse. Well shortly afterwards 24hour Fitness bought out the small gym's memberships. What they did with the "join accounts" was to split them into individual memberships. Hence I only pay $2 a month.;)

I love riverplex, but with the bridge closing, it won't be as easy to get too. Fitness America is on 116, duh i pass it everyday on my way to work. I'll call 'em and find out the fees.

$400 for 3 years paid in full. Access to all of their local facilities and no extra charge for yoga, pilates, or spinning like a lot of other gyms in the area charge.

Also, no surprise end of the contract renewals, you have 30 days to re-sign up or your account is closed and you have to pay all joining fees.
Fly it like you stole it!
