loumeinhart 0 #1 March 27, 2005 DISCLAIMER: I searched and couldn't find a previous related post - also not sure where to post so picked bonfire first. skydivingmovies.com has a new vid of a paraglider pilot going in under a reserve. I have 2 questions: 1. What happened to the paraglider that rendered it uncontrollable? 2. What was the 'beeping' device in the background during normal flight ? thanks for your reply! -

The tones tell you whether you are ascending or descending and how fast.. As for the control....sounds from the radio talk like rough thermals that helped to collapse the wing but that is only a guess....SabreDave
Sen.Blutarsky 0 #4 March 27, 2005 Uh, the pilot survived the incident so he didn't "go in." A "forced landing" is how I believe he would describe it - he's still around so ya's can ask him - no need to be alarmist.
loumeinhart 0 #5 March 27, 2005 What is the correct term for a paraglider pilot landing under a reserve in trees after his paraglider has become uncontrollable? EDIT - you already answered.."forced landing" -I read too fast thanks - -
Sen.Blutarsky 0 #6 March 27, 2005 QuoteI read too fast Rest assured our government continues to work with your educational service provider to address this dire problem ... the approach taken by my office is reknown on the issue, seven years of college down the drain simply is too much time to spend on a single "skill." Until we are successful, endeavor to persevere. (<- as quoted in The Outlaw Josey Wales.)

shropshire 0 #8 March 27, 2005 1. What happened to the paraglider that rendered it uncontrollable? - probably turbulance - the airs full of it 2. What was the 'beeping' device in the background during normal flight ? as stated above, the beeping comes from the pilots Vario - a very sensitive barometric alti' - this shows not only height, but also indicates if you are in rising or sinking air (.)Y(.)
