I think I may need stitches for the first time...

If in doubt do the following.....

1. Drink a couple of shots of that cough syrup with the gold flakes in it.

2. Grab a roll of duct tape and do the round de round.

3. If it hurts repeat step # 1 until it doesn't

Truly great advice. :D

It's even funnier b/c I've actually done shit like that before.

IIRC, if the wound has been open more than 6-8 hours then it cannot be stitched shut.

Usually it is 12-24 hrs, but it can be sutured even after 24 hrs.It depends on the location, how deep it is, and the physician. The longer someone waits, the higher the infection risk becomes.

I've had a LOT of stitches. Don't be afraid, go get it checked out before it is too late to close it, otherwise everything under the sun will find it's way into the wound, and pulling crap out of it is worse than getting stitches. (Every have to pull a LONG hair out of a wound OUCH!)
If the wound is in a non bendy area, it's likely that the doc will use a butterfly bandage kinda thingy, they are a lot more popular than when I used to accidentally carve myself up.
I had a neice who ended up with like 180 of those little butterfly buggers after some major bone surgery. Her mom had had the same surgery 10 years before and had to have the same number of stitches, so lots of improvements have been made.

I think I'll be okay. I haven't gone to get stitches yet....it would be nice to see how long I can live life without them. The cut doesn;t look nearly as deep as it did last night, but now my foot hurts to walk on it or even put pressure on it.[:/]

ah well, I'll survive:)

What the hell is wrong with you? Go get stitches! Don't you know how cool stitches are? THey leave a train track thingy on your skin and you can make up all kinds of stories about how you got the scar! :D

But if you don't get them that NexCare stuff is really great. Its what they use at hospitals to cover wounds and hold them together while they heal. I have a nice big square of it on my neck right now! You can even shower with it and it won't come off.

:D:D:D
So true! I've had my had cut on twice. First time it was a line and the second time it was a V shape. The two scars blend together so it looks like I have the mark of Zorro on my hand. Add to that the train track thing from stiches and it makes for some great stories!
