Kris 0 #8 March 26, 2005 IIRC, if the wound has been open more than 6-8 hours then it cannot be stitched shut.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
justinb138 0 #9 March 26, 2005 No problem Also, I'd recommend the Band-Aid brand liquid bandage stuff too. It works great, and lasts for days. Best part is that it isn't painful at all. The "New Skin" brand of stuff hurts like hell, as I think a good part of it is Alcohol.
maxmadmax 8 #10 March 26, 2005 If in doubt do the following..... 1. Drink a couple of shots of that cough syrup with the gold flakes in it. 2. Grab a roll of duct tape and do the round de round. 3. If it hurts repeat step # 1 until it doesn't Don't go away mad....just go away!

d_squared431 0 #12 March 26, 2005 QuoteIIRC, if the wound has been open more than 6-8 hours then it cannot be stitched shut. Usually it is 12-24 hrs, but it can be sutured even after 24 hrs.It depends on the location, how deep it is, and the physician. The longer someone waits, the higher the infection risk becomes. Nightingale 0 #13 March 26, 2005 when in doubt, go to the doc. stitches will leave you with a smaller, less painful scar.
Snowwhite 0 #14 March 26, 2005 I've had a LOT of stitches. Don't be afraid, go get it checked out before it is too late to close it, otherwise everything under the sun will find it's way into the wound, and pulling crap out of it is worse than getting stitches. (Every have to pull a LONG hair out of a wound OUCH!) If the wound is in a non bendy area, it's likely that the doc will use a butterfly bandage kinda thingy, they are a lot more popular than when I used to accidentally carve myself up. I had a neice who ended up with like 180 of those little butterfly buggers after some major bone surgery. Her mom had had the same surgery 10 years before and had to have the same number of stitches, so lots of improvements have been made.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com

THey leave a train track thingy on your skin and you can make up all kinds of stories about how you got the scar! But if you don't get them that NexCare stuff is really great. Its what they use at hospitals to cover wounds and hold them together while they heal. I have a nice big square of it on my neck right now! You can even shower with it and it won't come off. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)
