happythoughts 0 #38 March 27, 2005 QuoteA thread about brownies without a single reference to Alice B. Toklas??? Sheesh! There was an interesting undertone to that movie. It seemed to take a point of view that each lifestyle had its good/bad points, instead of picking one and deriding the other. It was funny too. I like funny. Well I just learned something new, (thanks to Google); First, I had forgotten there was a movie with that name in the title, because I've never seen it. I may need to rent that, since Peter Sellers was always worth watching. Second, I never knew "Alice B. Toklas" was a real person, who published a cookbook in 1954 which actually contained a recipe for hashish fudge, (not brownies - as mentioned by the other poster). All this time I had thought "Toklas" was a fictional name generated by a word-play on "toke-less"."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
