Snowwhite 0 #26 March 27, 2005 QuoteI started this thread after seeing him live in Austin 2 years ago. He came back through this year, but I didn't have the money for tix this time around. He's still touring with a pretty packed schedule and although he's getting very old and his chops aren't like they used to be...he can still play very very well. Its still absolutely amazing. I've been playing trumpet for nearly 15 years now...needless to say I'm a big MF fan. We saw Maynard in concert about a half dozen times from 74 to 76. I bought my trumpet playing husband a flugelhorn, just so he could learn "Feels so Good" and play it for me. Great music, but the concert was the same EVERY time, so what the heck, we just started turning the stereo up loud and listening to his albums more. Ok trumpet players, do you know who Bill Chase was? There were some GREAT lips!skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
peregrinerose 0 #27 March 28, 2005 I saw Maynard about 8 years ago. He kicked ass even then, though leans a lot more on his lead trumpet player for some of the solo sections. Nothing like Birdland played by Maynard Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
Acensky 0 #28 March 28, 2005 I went to see him 4 years ago and he was sick as a dog and still played amazingly like nothing was wrong. Coolest trumpet player I have ever met. HeatherGarbage bags do not make good parachutes.
