WFFC 1 #26 March 24, 2005 QuoteInstead of dwelling on all the negatives of this incident. We can look at some positives and that is that this is a great opportunity for Skymama's daughter to get some driving experience with Mom sitting next to her for guidance. tigra 0 #27 March 24, 2005 You know, Andrea's daughter might need some of those "valumes" too. Cross country driving can be pretty stressful, especially with your mom in the seat next to you watching everything you do!

Evelyn 0 #35 March 25, 2005 Thoughts and prayers for Andrea. She will probably suffer more from the drive home than the broken wrists (this coming from a mom who taught two kids to drive - very nervewracking). Hopefully she is on good drugs , Snowboarding was my favorite sport until I discovered skydiving, and while I never broke anything I had some major bruises. I get much less beat up with skydiving. Good luck on the drive home Andrea, heal soon, and stick to skydiving...much safer IMO. flyangel2 2 #36 March 25, 2005 It's funny, cause Andrea was saying that if she had been skydiving, she never would have gotten hurt. She even told the doctors that she' going to stick with skydiving, since it's safer. I wish I could have seen the look on the doctor's face when she said that.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Think how much time you spend in such close proximity to the ground while snowboarding. You're MUCH farther away from the ground when jumping.

It's Valium And, if her mother won't let her drive, i'm assuming driving on drugs is out Heal fast, Andrea! Broken stuff is no fun. skymama 37 #40 March 25, 2005 We made it home!!!!!!!!!!!Alix came through like a trooper and drove the entire way, never complaining. She did great and I'm so proud. She only had 10 hours of driving before this on the flatlands. Now she can add mountain driving in the dark, rain and fog and I-95 to her skills! Thanks sooooo much for all of the wonderful well wishes. I knew it couldn't have just been the Vicodin helping with the pain! Forgive me if I don't answer every pm and well wish, typing with 1 finger is hard! My mouth works fine though, so call me! My injury: We did great on the bunny slope which gave us false confidence, I guess. I never fell, had great balance, all was good. I asked for wrist guards and helmets before the class but we got there right when it started and would have had to wait 2 hours for the next class because the rentals were in a separate building. Big mistake! It was the last day this mtn. was open and we wanted to get started. Sigh...hindsight is 20/20. We went up the lift (scary in itself! ) and when I got off it seemed really, really steep! My kids took off and I stood there plotting my course. My son came back again for his second run and showed me the way to go. I started off, fell a couple times but got up and kept going fine. I was going facing backwards still doing fine until I had to avoid people so I turned my shoulders to curve the board up and lost my balance and fell back on my ass. I didn't thow my hands back, they were more by my sides. But, I was on a slope so when I fell back they kind of jammed into the slope. I was too proud to call the ski patrol, so I hiked down carrying my board with my broken wrist. Yes, I'm a dork! My injuries: my left wrist has a hairline fracture. I have a lace up splint on it so I can at least take it off and do personal stuff. It is getting more strength every day. I even opened a soda can with it today. Woohoo! My right was totally fractured and had to be reset. I have a soft cast on it now and it hurts and throbs like a mofo if I put it below my heart. I eagerly await for when I can take more drugs. I couldn't take them today with Alix driving so I wasn't drowsy. It was tough. I go to the doc on Mon. for a real cast. I'll be out for 6-8 weeks. One thing I learned is that my mouth is more handy than I thought it was! I'll be here moderating, but since this just took 30 min. to type, I won't be posting much. Thanks again, y'all. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
