i was reading the parachutist yesterday

Recommended Posts

SO yesterday was my day off, and i got my new license and my new parachutist at the same time, and since the tv could not hold my attention and I have seen all the dvd's I own like a bizillion times, I read the WHOLE DAMN ISSUE. from the fatality report, to all the names of the rising fallers, and even mr. glenn bangs note as our pres of the USPA. I loved that note and what it had to say about his peer mentality towards other skydivers, and the way that we should treat each other. I quickly remembered my AFF last year as he was teaching the new instructors at skydive san marcos, and the brief contact I had with him. I had one of the worst STUDENT landings ever and he kindly walked over to me and said really slowly "flare" and then i said sorry for f-ing stuff up and he said (as he bends over and looks at me knees) "its not my forgiveness you need, but their's" points at both knees. he laughed a second with me and that was it. But he took the time to do it. Today the memory of that moment of encouragement and the many others that i have had keep me going, even when I am tired and dirty and just got off work and am a wee bit mean on the weekends, I still will go jump, cause i love it. I look foward to this season and encouraging new students, and old friends, and realizing that although I must leave the teaching to the coaches and instructors, I need no rating to be a mentor!;)

Ahh, what a wonderful world.

You already are dude. We made the AFF class Saturday watch you and your landing pattern and then made them tell us what ALL you did wrong.:D:P:D:D

Awwwww Jeff, I knew i should have tackled you and beat you into the ground when i had the chance on saturday!:D:D:D:D

Aww, have fun with it. I've already decided my role at the DZ with respect to students is to be the example for the ones who are struggling. "Listen, kid, if SHE can manage to get a license, anyone can..." :D:ph34r:

We really are lucky to have Mr. Bangs in that position. He is a true professional and a top notch manager.
I've spoken with him several times on various issues over the last few years, and he has always been helpful and concerned.
I finally got to meet him in person last year at the 100 way demo into the Kitty Hawk Celebration.

He docked on my leg...B|

I introduced myself and mentioned the status of something we'd discussed 2-3 months earlier and
he took me aside to further the discussion.

Driving back from Austin to Houston last year I stopped at SM just in time for the sunset load
AFF class graduation. Glen was obviously very busy with an e-val jump and we just nodded boarding
the aircraft.

I didn't think he would remember me
nor did I expect him to...

The last jump..
beer on the disk competition was in effect, and
after fighting a too small Zpo canopy through a 'classic' accuracy approach to a dead center...
:$

The President of the USPA hands me a brew there
in the peas...
...and takes up our last converstion where it had ended 7 months prior!

I've been in the sport a while...seem 'em come & go.

This guy is clearly one of the top assets we have
as a membership organization.
