BHawks 0 #1 February 22, 2009 Howdy, I am a new rigger. Does anyone have any tricks to get the racer pop top to lay flush (as much as possible) with the rig when you close the darn thing?
riggerrob 643 #2 February 22, 2009 That would take an hour to explain. Start by throwing your steel T-bodkins in the trash! Second, ask Jump shack for a free set of stealth loops. Third, sew up a set of adjustable stealth loops. Fourth, learn how to PRO pack with only the slider and center cell up the middle. the thinner you flake the canopy, the easier it will be to create the crater needed to deep seat the Pop-Top. LouDiamond 1 #3 February 22, 2009 There are a few steps that can make seating the pop top easier but the easiest way to learn these tricks is to watch the DVD JumpShack puts out. Give nancy a call and ask for one, they are free. Unstable 9 #4 February 23, 2009 Yeah man I'm a new rigger (about 2 1/2 years) too and I had to learn a few tricks for Racers. They arn't rocket surgery. I use 4x T-bodkins and 2 old cypres loops from recently repacked rigs to thread the AAD cutters. Pointer #1: Get the DVD from Nancy. She's a sweetheart and will help you when you need it. Pointer #2: Just like any rig, make sure to leave ROOM for the pop top to go. Leave a little pocket when you fold the ears and put the canopy in the bag. keep the little hole alive and well by occasionally massaging . Pointer #2: Don't use your muscles. If you're fighting it, you're doing it wrong and JUST LIKE ON ANY RIG OUT THERE, you can damage it or make it unsafe. Happy Rigging!!=========Shaun ==========
pchapman 279 #5 February 23, 2009 I find the Racer is one rig where I like to use a molar strap. With the various packing methods I'm used to, the freebag has nothing to hold it compressed during a big part of the packing process, unlike a molar freebag or even a regular single pin freebag with a temporary locking cord through it. So the bag bulges and doesn't restrain the canopy well -- when you prefer it to be well restrained to provide the 'well' for the pilot chute in the middle. Just my personal preference.
