Find Your DZ

Recommended Posts

Went looking for my old "home", but no luck.
But, found plenty of new homes and old visiting places!
Perris Valley - you can see the words "SKYDIVE PERRIS" on the runway!
Lake Elsinore?? - There's a lake where the airport should be?
Jumptown - Actually, this is before (and after) the drop zone was here.
Pepperell - where I met the wife, awwwwww. You can see the Ghetto pretty well!
Eloy - more advertising for space aliens!
Quincy - but no convention.
Clewiston - you can almost smell the sugar cane burning!
Lebanon, ME wasn't important enough to photograph with the satellites, apparently. Oh, well.
Boston-Providence - once I get that square reserve.
Real Home - for that backyard demo (not)!
Can you find your DZ?
Carl

The pic was taken in June 1994; the dz at Elsinore flooded sometime around then (I don't remember exactly when...).

Skydive Monroe
The left corner of the grass runway (no longer used) that runs perpendicular to the paved one is where we put most of our (sport)landings. You can just make out the circle of stones that outlines our windsock (I usually aim for it, work on accuracy - LOL!) Otherwise, most swoop the grass to the side of the runway. Tandems land in the grass in front of hangar just next to ours.
Our hangar is the dark roofed building.

X-Keys in March '95. I think there's been a lot of clearing and expansion since then; check out the nearby golf course - a pre-approved out as long as you don't swoop the greens (near the end of the video).
At first glance the runway at Blue Sky Adventures, my current home DZ, looks really big. Then you realize that you're looking at the drainage/swoop ditches cut to protect the runway and scare AFF students. The windsock indicator just NW of the runway has been moved to the hangar side, just so us howffos can't land there anymore >:(.
Lastly, in this image my house is at the very top, in line with the S in "United States" on the top caption. A larger view of my neighborhood shows my elementary school at the bottom right, my middle school just above the center, and my high school at the top right.

It kinda looks like the imagery from a smart bomb right before something explodes...j/k :D

Now that maps.google.com has higher resolution satellite pictures, I figured I'd resurrect this thread.

Here are a few I've been to, Richland Skysports (my "home" dz), Kapowsin Airsports, Wright Brothers Skydiving and Eugene Skydivers (same airport, they're the two hangars right next to each other on the north end of the airport), Skydive Arizona, and The Parachute Center (Lodi).
