Slappie 9 #1 April 4, 2005 I've made it 12 hours!! 7 of them I was asleep though. I promised my dad I would quit for my birthday if he made it a year. He made his one year on March 6th. So I'm trying... Wish me luck and lemme know any tricks you guys used. 21 years seems like a long time, until you put it up against my dad's 58 years. Went to the doc last week to get advice. He prescribed Zyban & a small low dose Xanax pill if and when I get really fired up to help calm me down. I also bought some sunflower seeds. While I was in the liquor store Saturday night I got a box of cocktail straws. Man this is ROUGH!! Oh ya can't forget the patch CQ stage 1.. Rebecca 0 #2 April 4, 2005 Yay! Good for you!! Hope all those distractions and meds help. One thing I did was to actually admit to myself and those around me when I was craving a ciggie. I said it out loud, let it be OK to want one, and then just didn't follow through. It seemed to work better than denying that I was seriously jonesing. Good luck! you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

Slappie 9 #4 April 4, 2005 Oh trust me everyone who works with me are all being very nice to me. I'm not denying anything. I'll be the first to admit I'm jonesing really bad. I also decided I'm not going to change my routine. I can't.. That's how I live. I had my coffee this morning, and it was hard, but I made it.. NWFlyer 2 #5 April 4, 2005 Good for you! You can always do what my mom did - she just decided to see how long she could go without one. That was in 1972. I think she finally got rid of her last pack sometime in the early 90s. (I guess she figured she'd gone long enough...)"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. masterrig 1 #7 April 4, 2005 Postpone them... tell yourself you'll have one in 5-min. After that time passes, tell yourself you'll have one in 10-minutes. In the mean-time, stay busy. I've been off them for 8-yrs. My wife(she worked for DEA) told me they are about as addictive as heroin. It's ROUGH... but, you can do it! The best of luck to you! You'll do it!!!Chuck

Tink1717 2 #9 April 4, 2005 I dropped a three pack-a-day habit 17 years ago. The most important thing you need to do at this point is to start altering your environment. In order to become a non smoker, you need to place yourself, quite deliberately, in non-smoking situations. For example, sit in the non smoking section of restaurants. Stay away, for a time, from your friends who smoke (some will get offended by this, but those who are truly interested in your success, will understand), wash ALL your clothes and bedding. Clean, stem to stern your car. Get rid of all your ashtrays. These are just a few of the things I did this time that I didn't do last time. Controlling your environment is the only thing you can do. Take the bull by the horns and get it done. Good Luck. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. Rebecca 0 #16 April 4, 2005 Hey, I did it cold turkey - no gum, no patch, no straws, and minimal assualts. It's not false hope, it's true strength, and Slappie my friend, you've got it. The first few weeks are an absolute bitch though... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

heidihagen 0 #21 April 4, 2005 maybe cold turkey isn't the best way? you know, gradually --only after meals & when you drink (that way can be tricky tho!!!)i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay. .:need a container to fit 5'4", 110 lb. cypres ready & able to fit a 170 main (or slightly smaller):.[/ce

Slappie 9 #23 April 4, 2005 Quotemaybe cold turkey isn't the best way? you know, gradually --only after meals & when you drink (that way can be tricky tho!!!) I actually thought about that. But if I'm smoking, I'm still smoking. When I woke up this morning I still had 5 cigarettes in a pack with my lighter on the bedside table. GF brought me a cup of coffee and I looked at that pack after a couple sips. Though what the hell, I have 5 left in this pack... Let's just finish it off. I then handed the pack the lighter and the ashtray to my GF and she put them away for me. Having a rough day today because I'm completely bored at work. It has been super slow today. Normally is at the begining of the months in my business. So I've had a alot of sit on my ass time with nothing to do... I had a routine, I would work for an hour and a half, go smoke relax and come back to my office and get back to work. If I sit in my office to long, my body tells me it's time to go smoke. I just took a walk around the building avoiding the front porch where I might run into someone smoking. Damn I want to kill someone... I think it might be time for a xanax I just have to add to those of you who have kicked the habit. Man do I respect you. Oh and this thread is my therapy.
