ca residents - sales tax?

i can't believe i can't find this anywhere on the web. i googled it and only found links to every piece of tax software you can imagine. (btw-- get your taxes in!)

anyway, my question:
what is the current sales tax rate in ca?
i need to know it for a web site i'm building... the guy lives there (but it's easier to ask here... or he might ask me to change something!)

San Bernardino County is presently 7.75%. But that could change.

I think that in CA the sales tax can be different for different cities/counties (but I'm not positive). In the Los Angeles area the sales tax is 8.25 %.

cool, i guessed 8.5, but he lives in newport beach.. so i might bump it down to 8.25%. thanks a bunch!
