It is TRULY realistic to face up to the real problems we face. A pessimist, however, would recognize the problems, but then go on to say the problems are insurmountable. & thereby rationalize that there's no point in even trying. That's really not Pessimism, that's more a case of Defeatism. Not willing to try because they know they are going to fail. A Pessimist would try to surmount the problems but complain that it's not going to work.
