DrunkMonkey 0 #1 April 18, 2005 Anyone try acupuncture for seasonal allergies/allergic rhinitis? I'm fucking miserable right now, and the fistful of drugs I've been taking haven't been doing dick lately...
vt1977 0 #2 April 18, 2005 Last year I had acupuncture for sinus problems which were not caused by allergies but certainly worsened by them. It worked a treat in the short term, but 5-6 days later they were much the same as they were before having the treatment. It involved something like 12 needles in my face for 30 minutes. It wasn't painful as such but neither was it pleasant. Having said that, if my sinuses got that bad again I'd do it again any time! Vicki
Rebecca 0 #3 April 18, 2005 I've been getting acupuncture for several weeks now. A few weeks ago, I had allergy-sinus pressure from hell - pounding behind my eyes and forehead, couldn't see straight or stop sneezing. I asked the doc if he could do something about it, so he stuck needles in my forehead, nose, chest, tummy and arms (about 12, symmetrically on each side or centered). Within 20 minutes, I felt it all clear away like a bad storm breaking. I had enough energy to go home and dig in the garden! So, it didn't 'cure' me, but it provided some kick-ass relief! you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? Shotgun 1 #4 April 18, 2005 If I had not seen this thread, I would not have remembered a dream I had last night... I was giving myself acupuncture and I had a bunch of needles stuck in my left hand. As I was pulling the needles out (which was hurting quite a bit), I started wondering if I shouldn't be doing that to myself since I didn't know what I was doing... Sorry, that didn't answer your question, but thanks for reminding me of my dream.

Have not done it for sinuses, but I used to go all the time for my back, neck and shoulder. I was doing much better, and even had some treatments to help with cramping once. I was feeling great there for a little while.....I swore I would never give it up, but insurance doesn't cover it. *** F LORIDA!
kimgriffin 0 #6 April 18, 2005 I've had about 10 sessions of accupuncture for allergies so far. I only have 2 more sessions until I'm finished. I've been treated more for food allergies (and red wine.... grrrr) than hay fever. But, I do get that also sometimes. It HAS helped without a doubt. I got very tired of taking antihistimines ... they make me tired, skin all dry and they do nothing to fix the problem. What I like about the the type of accupuncture I'm getting is that it desensitises you to what your allergic to so you're no longer allergic. I don't know if this program (called N.A.E.T.) is offered at all accupuncturists. It may help to shop around a little. Here's a link if you want to read more about it. http://www.acudebra.com/bioset.htm#NAET Another skydiver lady living in Fla and her 2 yr old daughter are going to the same woman for allergies and are also seeing results. I've gotten results from being congested in one session - nice! Sometimes I relapse but over all it's so much better. The worst part is the money but if I'll no longer be allergic to so many things I'm eating, drinking and breathing, then it's money well spent. Allergies are a malfunction of the immune system. So, I'd also be making sure you're doing all sorts of things that help your immune system function properly. Good luck!
tfelber 0 #7 April 18, 2005 I got a steroid shot a couple of years ago and allergies were gone for over a year. I'm dying right now though so I think I'll go back to the doctor.
