NWFlyer 2 #1 April 19, 2005 My last day at work is next Friday (4/29). I'm taking a vacation from the real world for a few months, maybe doing a little soul-searching, and figuring out what I really want to be when I grow up (or if I really want to grow up at all). It's been a bit bittersweet because I really do genuinely like the people I work with even though they drive me crazy sometimes; it's just that the work isn't really anything that interests me any more. I run into my boss at the water cooler this morning and she says "Can you stop by my office for a sec?" I think "Uh, oh." Go in her office and she says "I just wanted to let you know that since you've pretty much transitioned all your work and since I'm on vacation the rest of this week and all next week, feel free to come and go as you please till next Friday. Use your office for whatever you need to but don't feel the need to be here just to be here." And whaddya know... the DZ just switched over to summer hours. Bolas 5 #7 April 19, 2005 So if you have no job, you can drive to the Shimmel Boogie, and hit Cinco De Mayo in Chester on the way. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
karenmeal 0 #8 April 19, 2005 Hoooraayy!!!Maybe we can finally get a jump in soon! NWFlyer 2 #9 April 19, 2005 QuoteSo if you have no job, you can drive to the Shimmel Boogie, and hit Cinco De Mayo in Chester on the way. So tempting, seriously. But the weekend of the Shimmel Boogie I have: 1) Red Sox/Mariners tickets. It might be another 86 years before I can see the "World Champion Boston Red Sox" in person. To a kid who cried during the 1986 World Series, this is a big deal. 2) Tickets to see a play with a friend (okay, that one I could miss). 3) My DZO's wedding to attend. Of course, I suppose Cinco de Mayo's still a possibility...
NWFlyer 2 #10 April 19, 2005 QuoteDid ya ever envision getting *PAID* to skydive at 50 jumps? I hadn't quite looked at it that way! Love it! It's not like I was going to work that hard anyway, but now I don't even have to pretend to work.

Maybe we can get one in early Saturday morning before things get crazy for you.
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #12 April 19, 2005 Wow, what an amazing situation that you have. That is a really wonderful soon to-be-ex boss that you have. It's quite rare. I'm sure that you'll be sure to give her a great gift when you leave. Have fun, girl!
 SeaKev 0 #13 April 19, 2005 See ya tomorrow then? It's quite rare. I know... since I decided to leave I've questioned my decision a bunch of times - I really am very fortunate to have a great boss that I have a great working relationship with (and her boss is also great, so we've got good departmental leadership as well). But my lack of interest/engagement in the work was really starting to affect my performance and it wasn't fair to anyone for me to continue phoning it in. I just need some time and perspective. The best part is I'm leaving under good terms and would be welcome back either as a full-time employee or for project/contract work in the future if it's what I want. People who work for assholes or who aren't working at all are probably thinking "you're crazy," and maybe I am, but I gotta do it...
