piisfish 140 #2 April 18, 2005 finally he'll leave someone else win the Tour de France... Was getting boring... Such a domination...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
AggieDave 6 #3 April 18, 2005 Personally I find it incredibly amazing, to have such total domination after fighting off cancer. I also found it humorous that so many times the host country's government tried to find him on drugs which was never found in him or on him.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 April 18, 2005 Actually, he said that he will be retiring AFTER the next Tour, win or lose. The press thing was just live on The Outdoor Network.

SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 April 18, 2005 I believe it's the exact same team, only this year they will be sponsored by The Discovery Channel
piisfish 140 #7 April 18, 2005 OK so maybe they are all older or something... Please do not kill the Tour once again... Too much domination in not good for the sport, even if it is VERY impressive...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Frenchy68 0 #8 April 18, 2005 QuoteI also found it humorous that so many times the host country's government tried to find him on drugs which was never found in him or on him. Actually, they've done that to almost every rider, and busted big ones (including the most popular from the host country). Regardless, he is probably the best of all time, if not, a close second. AggieDave 6 #10 April 18, 2005 QuoteRegardless, he is probably the best of all time, if not, a close second. Definately, whats interesting is he was pretty mediocore as a racer before he lost a testicle to cancer.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." lawrocket 3 #11 April 18, 2005 QuoteRegardless, he is probably the best of all time, if not, a close second. I think Eddie Merckx was better than Lance simply due to his domination at so many events. But, I also think that Lance's story is the all time best. A couple of years ago, word came out that medical tests showed that his heart was 50 percent larger than a normal human's. Then again, I don't think anybody questioned that he had a big heart... My wife is hotter than your wife.
Frenchy68 0 #12 April 18, 2005 QuoteDefinately, whats interesting is he was pretty mediocore as a racer before he lost a testicle to cancer. He also wasn't the leader of his team, and played more of a supporting part. Lawrocket: Merckx is indeed the racer I would consider on par with Armstrong, considering his overall racing accomplishment. lawrocket 3 #14 April 18, 2005 I do wish Americans knew more about the history of the sport. About guys like Merckx and Indurain and Hinault (who once put almost fifteen minutes between himself and the second place finisher who'd previously won the event). IT makes me wonder who will be the next star of cycling. A couple of years ago I'd have said Hamilton, but no longer with his doping problems. Also, unlike most Americans, Tour winners don't just come out of nowhere. They pay their dues in supporting roles... My wife is hotter than your wife. jakee 1,596 #15 April 18, 2005 All pro cyclists seem to have superhuman cardio fitness. When I first watched the tour as a kid it was big Mig Indurain dominating the event, fully relaxed the guy had a resting heart rate of 28 BPM! That'd kill most people.Do you want to have an ideagasm? The Court of the Arbitration of sport just put a two year ban on Hamilton, I really hoped he hadn't done any blood doping. That guy was one of my heros. Any guy who can win 4th place overall in the Tour De France with a broken collarbone has my respect.....such a shame. Chris I thought of the odds of me succeeding, versus the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid, and I went ahead anyway.
skymedic 0 #17 April 19, 2005 unfortunately for me he loses all respect if he had to cheat to get to that status of 4th in the tour. I thought that was an ungodly superfhuman feat at the time....little did I know...i was right. it was super human. so wrong. as far as supporting leads go...greg lemond didn't do much supporting...much to the chagrin of Hinault. well unless you count the 85 tour that Lemond was told to lose. and let Hinault win. sorry...not much respect for the typical french legend that Hinault was. Now i thought Andy hampsten had a shot...especialy after the 88 Giro...he looked unstopable. talk about superhuman on the Mountain stages in that race with both snow rain sleet and hail...BIG BALLS...but alas. he did a whole bunch of nothing. Not sure whether he could have beaten Lemond if he had given it a shot. But he made his point at L'Alpe d'Huez.
