Cast came off (I just couldnt take it anymore)

Recommended Posts

After two days of the worst itching and burning sensation inside my cast, I finally snapped and cut the damn thing off myself. (it comes off in 8 days). But Im glad I did, I had the nastiest infection growing. IF your sick look at the last pic.

casts suck if not applied correctly or the skin cleaned properly before application...

I was lucky. The only time I ever had a cast, on my left arm after breaking the radius bone at the wrist... never a problem. Ortho surgeon was really good.

but damn, that infection looks nasty...:S don't blame ya for getting the cast off early.

So, I looked at the last picture...couldn't help myself! Got one question for you:

You scratched, didn't you?

Just a guess...it's the reason docs recommend not shoving anything inside the cast to scratch even if it's itchy. You scratch the skin and the normal bacteria of the skin which have been thriving on the dark moist environment inside the cast take up residence in your skin. ;)

No matter how it happened, keep it clean and dry!

And, next time, just tell the doc to take it off for you. Looks like you're about to hack your leg off in that first pic! :P

Oh my gosh, Ray, it's only been a couple weeks! How will it heal properly now?

A friend warned me about sticking anything down there in my cast. He said once you start, it never stops itching. It's taken all of my willpower!
