QuoteIf your bike only goes 70 and you're on the freeway trying to overtake someone, and that person hoses you by speeding up.. you might just endanger yourself because of upcoming traffic.
By and large, if you buy a bike like that, you know you're not going to out-power anyone. Hopefully you'll be smart enough to take that into consideration when driving.
I haven't driven a lower-powered bike, but my brother rode a Honda 100 for a couple of years; he said he just had to adjust his expectations.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

For a first bike, I'd recommend a 500-650cc naked bike. You don't want much in the way of plastic, cause when you drop it, it'll be expensive to replace.
For a first I'd even more recommend getting an old used cheap bike, which you can learn on and ride to hell, and then when you're ready for something bigger and better, get something nice and expensive.

I had a Honda CX 500 back in the 80's. Back then a 500 was mid size and 1100 was the monster. Now 750 is almost small.
Four years ago I bought a Kawasaki Vulcan 750. I'd never had a license before
and was never real comfortable on the 500. Not because of power but just still learning. But the Vulcan 750, which is the smallest they make, was a pretty good choice. I aced the riding test with just a little practice. I can be stupid fast if I want to but it doesn't get away from me and I feel comfortable on the highway. Light enough to still have a center stand. I'm old enough that I don't want to go down the main drag on one wheel.
The 250 might be a good deal but not when you want to turn it around to something bigger in August.

I'm old for my age.

For the reason I stated above - twenty years since I been on a bike. I want something to learn on that I can handle and won't handle me. After I got all the skills back, THEN I'll start moving up the ladder if I want to.
then get a dirt bike
don't waste money on that thing
i mean kids now days ride bigger bikes than that
now grab your balls and go look at a bigger bike.
you only live once

Thanks for the constructive advice. I'd guess you'd have me jumping a stiletto 120 too right?
Scars remind us that the past is real
I think you'd be much better off getting atleast a Honda Shadow 750.
I bet you can find a 2003 Shadow 750 for $3k in good shape.

Dirtbikes are a completely different story...
A 250 street bike gets boring quickly.
A 250 dirt bike will kill you before you have a chance to realize you screwed up.
aight then - I'm open to suggestions and am not tied to Honda. I'll be doing some more research but keep the comments coming - they're greatly appreciated.
