peacefuljeffrey 0 #1 April 24, 2005 If they used to dock blimps on that spike atop the Empire State Building, but the people rode in the little gondola under the middle of the blimp... ...how in the hell did they ever get the people down from there?! -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... kingbunky 3 #3 April 24, 2005 i'm not sure if they ever successfully docked a blimp there, the mast was added to increase the height of the building, but it was too tricky to dock on it. good question though, if they had managed, i have no idea how they figured on getting people out."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." jakee 1,634 #5 April 24, 2005 Don't know about Blimps but rigid airships generally had walkways that ran through the length of them between the gas cells.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
peacefuljeffrey 0 #6 April 24, 2005 Where I fly, they dock a small blimp there. It's only recent. Last time I went for a night flight, just before sundown they landed the thing, and it was pretty amazing, but I didn't get to see it all because of ground obstructions blocking my view. I'd like to go there some time when I know it's coming, and watch them disembark. Of course, this is a ground landing, not against a building. The reason I asked is that in the beginning of Sky Captain the World of Tomorrow, they showed a blimp docking atop the Empire State Building... it got me thinking (always a dangerous and risky thing to do). They just said a great line: "Can we just for once die without all this bickering?! -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
