Ping. Ping is a network troubleshooting utility. It asks your computer to acknowledge its existence. If your computer responds positively to a ping, hackers are more likely to target your computer.

22 SSH. TCP connections to this port might indicate a search for SSH, which has a few exploitable features. SSH is a secure replacement for Telnet. The most common uses of SSH are to securely login and copy files from a server.

80 HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol). HTTP is used to transfer Web pages over the Internet. Port 80 should be open only if you're running a Web server.

Thanks in advance. :)

not sure what ver of windows you have but XP has a built in firewall that should be able to close off specific ports.

I don't use that though. What I do use is zone alarm

You need to identify the programs or services that are using those ports, determine if you need to have them, and uninstall them if you don't.

ICMP (ping) is normal. You can block it with zone alarm if it bothers you.

80 is probably a personal web server.

22 is SSH, but is also very common with rogue FTP servers and remote access programs. Check for spyware and viruses.

In zone alarm just up the security setting to high. And then on program just up it to "request access". It is a really powerful program just read through the help. If you are using broadband, most adsl/cable modems will have a nat based firewall so you can put in what ports you want to allow/disallow. PM me if you have any specific question, but I would advise reading the manual first B|
