Life Insurance ?

Recommended Posts

I know this has been beat up and on quite a bit, but some of the things I've found thorugh searches on the site haven't panned out...

I just tried AIG and they basically laughed me off the phone.

Has anyone had any good luck within the last few months in getting a life insurance policy or accidental death policy?? If so with whom???

Thank you all in advance.

I also plan on never having to use my reserve

Er...my dear you may want to rethink that plan....it is not a matter IF but WHEN....if you sent your mind to never using it....and you get into the situation you should, and fight it because you dont want to use it....you will die.... [:/]

Trust me you want to use your reserve....if it is so needed....unless you dont jump.

USPA has recently started offering life insurance through 4 different companies. I haven't gotten it yet, but the prices looked fairly resonable, considering. Check out USPA's web site under "Membership and Services"

Edited because I replied as a jerk. Let me put it this way - I've been in the sport for 11 years now. If I needed help with Safety and Training, we'd be in that forum. I know how and when to get my reserve out if the need ever arises.

Hey, I've always packed and planned not to use my reserve, BUT was trained, ready and willing to use it if need be.

And now I have two reserve rides.

I still plan not to use my reserve, but I am still trained ready and willing if need be.

Honestly - I'm not worried about S&T - I'm worried about getting affordable life insurnce - which is the point of my post. I mean no offense - and I agree with you, but that is their fault not mine.

Exactly - again - point of this thread - life insurance providers. If I have to use my reserve I will. I don't want to die and miss my daughter growing up or miss jumping with her. But I do have a wife and child to think about. eener - you should consider starting a thread in S&T forum if you'd like to discuss people that have my attitude where they think the chance of reserve usage is low. Just because I don't think I won't need it doesn't mean I won't use it.

And maybe you should take a deep breath, relax, and drop it. I saw your post before you edited it. Quite frankly, eeneR was dead on pointing it out to you - despite your jump numbers. You've been on DZ.com long enough to know that young jumpers will read stuff IN ALL FORUMS so don't go jumping on her because she pointed out something that could be taken the wrong way by a young jumper. Stating that although you practice your emergency procedures BUT don't plan on using your reserve would be a way that young jumpers wouldn't look at your post and say

"Hey...that guy has almost 1000 jumps. :o I only have "XX" jumps. He must know more than me. He doesn't plan on using his reserve so I don't need to either."

OK deep breath taken.

Renee - I'm sorry for jumpin down your throat - you do bring up a good point. I still believe in my own mind that I do the things I need to do so that I won't have to whip it out is all I am saying. I never said - "DONT whip it out if you need it" or "DONT whip it out unless you tried all that you can and you are way below your harddeck"... If the student hasn't been taught to use their reserve and if they don't use it there isn't much I can do about that as I am no instructor nor did I ever claim to be.

All I want to know about is people's experience with life insurance providers.

ps - did you all notice the :PB| i put after my reserve statment - it was rather tounge in cheek...

That's always been my mentality, too. I never fully "trust" my reserve, but I've had two reserve rides. I think your original statement was fine.

Going back to the original topic...didn't AndyMan post something about some company called Tonik covering jumpers for both medical and life?

Yeah, its in California ONLY.

I gave Freakydiver the number for my Dad's office, who happens to be an insurance man (independant) so he'll get some good answers from him.:)

Hmmm - I'll check and thank you very much val! I saw your snowboarding post and hope all went well... I usually suggest to beginning snowboarders that they at least bring a bottle of ibuprofen with the first few times (if not stronger drugs ;););))...

I too have had a reserve (edit forget ride) ride - it had absolutely nothing to do with my pack job. My right arm popped out of socket come pull time - no choice but to go silver as it was a useless noodle at that point... heh

Wow -

I don't understand -

If you don't trust your rigger and you don't trust your gear - what the hell do you jump for?

Jumping w/out faith in both of those is equal to being suicidal.:|

I jump because it's fun. I don't have 100% trust in anything. I accept the risk that stuff (even my reserve) might fail.

Also being a scuba diver

I have my life insurance through DAN (divers alert network) google it, it'll be the first thing up there.

I have 100k policy (alot being the only real thing to take care in my demise, is my dog) But it is through a sponsered plan through DAN. It even has a thing where if I am in a diving (SCUBA) accident it will pay a 125%.... this policy has no exclusions and cost 100 bucks every six months.... or maybe a year... I can't remember now, I just send them a check when they send me a bill:S

oh, and for the other conversation.... every jump I have done, I plan to use my reserve (as just that 'a reserve', and am thankful when I don't have to;)

but I jump as though I don't have a reserve.

Well now that's just being irresponsible. Some new FAA official could read that and go "What?! But she has to jump with a reserve otherwise she'll be violating FARs and seriously risking her own life!"
