CanuckInUSA 0 #51 April 13, 2005 Quotedo you condone high speed riding on public roads? Going ultra fast on a public road with traffic, is not the smartest of things to be doing. But I have been 145+ mph on a motorcycle on a country road. Am I a moron and potential Darwin award winner because I did that one day? To some of you who like to judge people, I would guess your answer is "yes". Then again, I'm sure many of the DZ.COM people don't like myself to begin with. So they've already made up their minds about how they dislike me before they even get to know me or know why I have taken certain risks in my life. Bottom line is I don't like to judge people and we should stop all this talk which is doing nothing but slamming this guy. Remember anyone of us could get fucked up jumping this weekend. AggieDave 6 #53 April 13, 2005 Basically, I'm tired of folks riding like that on public roads, country roads or not. Not only that, but I get to pay for it with high insurance rates...atleast the insurance companies have kept the rates for cruisers much lower then sport bikes. It comes down to I don't condone that sort of riding and would really like folks to consider a similar stance. If you want to really hammer on it and go that fast, go to a track day. Sort of like not doing more then a 180 approach in the main landing area. When I want to go toss a 270 and really get my swoop on, I go over to the swoop lane, away from the traffic and in more of a controlled environment. QuoteRemember anyone of us could get fucked up jumping this weekend. Yup, and since Morgan and I tend to take the truck to the DZ on the weekends, I think I'm gonna get fucked up and let her drive us home.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I rode motorcycles for over three years (I had a CBR 600) and I have gone 100+ many times on public roads. Doing this I made the same judgement as what you do when you decide to do a 270.. you move over to the swoop lane. In my case, if I felt like opening up the throttle as far as it would go.. I would do that on a road with no traffic, where I could do this reasonably safely. Let's stop judging people on here.. it gets old. There's a lot of knuckleheads getting their motorcycle license and think they can ride.. One of my friends here got his and figured he could outride me.. just cause he had an R1.. I showed him all sides of the road, on a CBR600.. those are the people that run up your insurance bill my friend.. and similar kind of people buy Velocities when they hit the right jumpnumber (instead of the right amount of skill) Just my 2 cts. If you play with them, big balls, BASE, bikes, etc. My hat is off....but don't endanger others who don't even know you are there. PERIOD. Gravitymaster 0 #62 April 13, 2005 QuoteQuote And that's why I don't like most sport bike riders. They think they're special and can keep that machine on the road at very high speeds on public roads. And I don't like most Harely riders because they think they can stop at every other bar and still be fine. Most of them need to shave and take a bath... of course, assuming they have a bathroom in their trailer - they spent all their money on the bike. Or they're dentists with too much time and money on their hands and going through a midlife crisis... they have no idea how to keep themselves out of an accident. They spend more money on branded fashion then safety gear. Apparently you don't know many Harley Riders. Our local HOG Chapter is involved in many community activities such as "Toys for Tots." We deliver toys to underprivilaged children every year with one of us dressed like Santa Claus and the rest dressed like Elves on our Harleys. We are also involved in raising money for MS and many other charitable causes. We have many free Rider Safety Programs where we learn and teach on a variety of topics designed to improve rider skills. We are currently involved in a yearly contest where a member can earn points for various activities ranging from organizing charitable events, visits to Senior Citizen Centers, Rides to VA Hospitals etc. QuoteMost other cruiser riders just don't have the money to buy a Harely. Or to spend on safety courses. QuoteAnd the Goldwings... christ... those old fucks shouldn't even be on the road anymore. They're not real riders anyway. Once you put a reverse gear on a bike, it no longer qualifies. Many older riders prefer the Gold Wings and Electra-Glides because of their comfort. Does that make them any less of a riders than the guy riding a 250cc bike? No. When I see them on the road, I wave and nod my head because they are out there on a bike enjoying the experience in their own way. Would you have the same criticism for a skydiver in his 70's who chose to jump a large docile canopy? QuoteOnly the sport/tourers are real hardcore guys... they're all ok with me. Glad someone's OK with you.

I was just making a point to Dave, that you can't generalize an entire group of riders. Even though those are the ones that get most of the attention, it's not fair to 'normal' Honda Civic drivers.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

You could help enact legislation which would make it illegal for any American to leave the house without safety goggles. Perhaps you could even help put grip tape on every step in America - help eliminate those nasty falls that are so costly to our society. Lighten up, Chief! The dude was having a little too much fun and clipped a tree or three at 170+. Not a bad way to go if you ask me.
