BillyVance 35 #1 April 13, 2005 Suzuki GSX-R1000 @ 174mph accident. NSFW I STRONGLY suggest you not open these pictures, especially the latter two, if you are squeamish, just had lunch, or at work... Body dismemberment and exposed organs detailed. This is why I don't ride motorcycles, much less at an insane speed... poor bastard was asking for it... josheezammit 0 #3 April 13, 2005 i saw something like that on Trauma life in the ER but it seemed worse cause the guy was still alive, and there was no fire, but when he got thrown off of his bike he went through a street sign, like a bullet Ahh, what a wonderful world. BillyVance 35 #14 April 13, 2005 I know it... at those speeds, it only takes a piece of gravel, or even a turtle in the right spot to send this dude flying... and you won't even have time to notice you're about to hit it. I just remembered a story in the newspaper a few years ago about a head-on accident involving a motorcycle and an 18 wheeler. I don't need to tell you who won. The motorcycle rider was passing a car in front of him on a 2 lane road going uphill, and he was fully in the oncoming lane coming to the top of the hill, going at least 80 mph. Well, just then, the 18 wheeler suddenly appeared. Neither had any time to react. WHAM... There wasn't even anything left of the motorcycle dude to put in a casket... he was completely obliterated and the motorcycle was smashed into thousands of little peices. There was a picture of the front grilled of the 18 wheeler sort of caved in as well. Gravitymaster 0 #15 April 13, 2005 Do you know if there was a passenger? The last photo shows a riding boot and a sneaker. Pretty graphic. I'm not sure the lesson is what can happen if you ride a motorcycle, but what can happen when you speed. I have seen photos of automobile accidents at much lower speeds than 178 mph that were absolutely horrific.
DrunkMonkey 0 #16 April 13, 2005 For all you metric folk, I believe that works out to 280.6 Km/h. Wow.
wildcard451 0 #17 April 13, 2005 There's half a head still attached to the body..you can still the ear and lower jaw. It almost looks like the pieces were dragged there and put in a pile since I find it highly doubtful that at 174mph they all came to rest so nice and neatly. Reminds me of a call I ran as a medic where the young man missed a curve, found a tree, and I found his head inside his helmet, 30 feet from his body. Motorcycles are fun, yet they aren't called donorcycles for nothing. /stupity wins in the end.
namdrib 0 #18 April 13, 2005 Yep, I am completely grossed out. I happened to be one of those morons that has gone that speed and faster on two wheels. My top speed is 204. But thanks to Billy, I don't think I will be doing that again any time soon. Luckily I had the brains to NOT do that on a country road. Regardless, I just wanted to say that I was grossed out. Thanks for listening.Unknowing attempting to take out all 4 wheeled vehicles remotely close to the landing area!

AggieDave 6 #20 April 13, 2005 And that's why I don't like most sport bike riders. They think they're special and can keep that machine on the road at very high speeds on public roads. The sport bike riders I have a lot of respect for ride very conservatively on public roads, then will push themselves and their bikes on track day at the track.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Nor do many continue to improve their skills once they get their license. I've got a buddy who is lucky to be alive after he hit a curb on his Ninja while on a highway off-ramp traveling over 75mph. He and the bike became airborn and the bike missed landing on him by a few inches. Had it hit him, he would be dead. As it was, he got a trip to the ER with major road rash and needed about 100 stitches. Riding a bike is like skydiving in that complacency kills, and you never know as much as you think you do. Continued education and honing your skills is the key to mitigating the chance of injury or death.
