aprilcat 0 #52 April 29, 2005 This is an old one, but I've always regarded this song as background music to a mass suicide... In a little while from now, If I'm not feeling any less sour. I promised myself, to treat myself, And visit a nearby tower .......... And climbing to the top, Would throw myself off, In an effort to, make clear to whoever, What it's like when your shattered ....... Left standing in a lurch, In a church with people saying ..... My God, that's tough, she stood him up, No point in us remaining ....... I may as well go home, As I did on my own, Alone again, naturally. To think that only yesterday, I was cheerful, bright and gay. Looking forward to, and who wouldn’t do, The role I was about to play. But as if to knock me down, Reality came around, And without so much as a mere touch, Cut me into little pieces. Leaving me to doubt, all about God and His mercy, Oh, if He really does exist, Why did He desert me? And in my hour of need, I truely am, indeed, Alone again, naturally. It seems to me that there are more hearts, Broken in the world that can’t be mended, Left unattended, what do we do? What do we do? Now looking back over the years, And whatever else that appears. I remember I cried when my father died, Never wishing to hide the tears. At sixty-five years old, My mother, God rest her soul, Couldn’t understand why the only man, She had ever loved had been taken. Leaving her to start, with a heart so badly broken, Despite encouragement from me, No words were ever spoken. And when she passed away, I cried and cried all day, Alone again, naturally ..... Alone again ................................. naturally. Edited to add: by Gilbert O'Sullivan Call the waaaaaaaambulance!~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo! peacefuljeffrey 0 #54 April 29, 2005 and they were all yellow... I can't believe it took me this long to think of "Fire and Rain," by James Taylor. Also, there's a sad one by Rod Stewart called "The Killing of Georgie." "October" by U2 is not sad, per se, but it's sentimental. Not to mention short. I went to a laser rock show and they actually had a great segment done to that song, with laser-created leaves falling down from above as though we were all lying on the grass under the trees... I LOVE laser rock shows. Anyone who lives on Long Island, I'm jealous. You have the Vanderbilt Planetarium there with awesome shows every week! Don't waste it! -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Good one, but when I heard it in the picture, it sounded like John Cale to me....and I recall his name in the credits. "The Shrek CD, containing a version of Cohen's composition by the young balladeer Rufus Wainwright, has sold in excess of 500,000 copies so far. The movie, which features a sonorous and achingly yearning version of the song by veteran singer John Cale, has grossed $267.2 million." Source Denver Post, Nov 2001 So it was Wainwright's composition, but Cale sang it in the film."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." Guest #58 April 29, 2005 My picks: "When She Loved Me" by Sarah McLachlan on the Toy Story 2 soundtrack. Most moving instrumentals: "The Oh of Pleasure", by Ray Lynch "Love of Strings" by Moby ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." BillyVance 34 #59 April 29, 2005 How about "Love Bites" by Def Leppard... good song to get depressed to when your relationship with a SO is in the dumps... Or, "Danny Boy" that old Irish dirge at wakes and funerals..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
kelel01 1 #60 April 29, 2005 "Love Bites" is one of my all-time favorites! I'm always pining away after someone I can't have, and that's exactly what that song's about. That and "Poison" by Alice Cooper . . . although it's not really sad.
jumpchikk 0 #61 April 29, 2005 I love that "Love Bites" song... I find myself popping in the Hysteria CD whenever I'm sad and forwarding it to that track...
windcatcher 0 #62 April 29, 2005 Pretty much anything by the Red House Painters. I used to listen to them a lot because I used to like being sad and melancholy. Anyways, check out their lyrics, set to the tune of a man's voice with the most depressing sound: don't want to ask you again kill my girlfriend and kill my best friend sam cause i saw them making eyes again and where you walked away and left a bleeding part of me empty and bothered watching the water quiet in the corner numb and falling through without you what does my life amount to? It's not just the lyrics that are depressing, but more so the music that goes with them Mother to the cutest little thing in the world...

Shotgun 1 #68 April 29, 2005 QuoteThat and "Poison" by Alice Cooper . . . although it's not really sad. That was never one of my favorite Alice songs, but when I saw one of his shows at the House of Blues in New Orleans, I was in the front row... and when he started that song, he got down on one knee and reached out to me... so I gave him my hand and he sang the whole first part of the song directly to me.. That was so cool because he has always been one of my favorite artists.... And he puts on a great show. He knew he had about a year to live due to a very aggressive cancer that was very terminal and chemo/radiation therapy would do no good for him other than prolong the misery. He got a bunch of his friends together (Jackson Brown, Bruce Springsteen, etc, etc.) and made his best album....it is a truely great album in so many way's. Well the last track on the album....makes me tear up everytime...just remember my since passed on friends and family...and also Warren...for giving me one truely great song. One line will give you an idea but the whole song is filled with beautiful bits like this: Are you up there in the sky makin angels laugh Spittin on the sun Just a little choked up that you can only fly kind of wishing you could run Can't even think about this song without stirring up huge emotion.
