steve1 5 #1 May 1, 2005 Just wondering if anyone has had any luck turkey hunting. My wife and I got lucky and shot two gobblers this Spring. I haven't been able to jump much lately, so I've been doing the next best thing. These pictures are of my wife and her bird. I hope to deep fry them tomorrow....Steve1
fluffcake 0 #2 May 1, 2005 Every morning during my commute to work there is this one decent sized turkey lingering around the side of some back road. I almost hit him a couple times cause he's stuck his neck out a little too far... and sometimes I accidentally swerve in his direction. I swear the bastard is mocking me and just wants to play chicken every morning... one of these days. Does that count?
bch7773 0 #3 May 1, 2005 I used to turkey hunt all the time with my dad. its 3 hours of pure boredom with 3 minutes of excitement, but i liked it. MB 3528, RB 1182
Thunderbow 1 #4 May 1, 2005 I don't do much hunting any more and never did hunt turkeys but here in Michigan there are more of them now than ever before. I don't remember ever seeing or even hearing as many pheasants which there are hardly any of now. A close friend of mine has had great luck in the last few years here.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lord, let me be the person my dog thinks I am. bigorangemd 0 #5 May 1, 2005 Go during the weeks. Been guiding more than hunting. No luck yet (they get so henned up here.) Had two gobblin' like mad Thurs. but wouldn't come to me. Later found they were across a creek I didn't see. Guy's first time so he was psyched just to hear the gobblin'
steve1 5 #6 May 1, 2005 We only went one weekend. Both times was in the evening. This probably isn't the best time to call. Everytime we called they'd slowly move off without responding. It was close to dark, when I tried calling mine. He wandered away around a small hill with some hens. When they went out of sight I ran around the hill the other way. We met up on the far side of the hill. I got a quick running shot, but got him. My wife's turkey was out in a field. I called, but again they moved off kind of angling toward a fence. We moved ahead of them and waited for them to come walking down the fence line. When they were next to us, my wife couldn't see their heads above the tall grass. She was sitting against a tree. She slowly got up into a kneeling position and cut loose with her 12 guage. I'd rather call them in, but when they won't respond, we usually figure out which way they are moving and head them off. I guess some hunters don't feel this is sporting, but it works well. Anyhow, I'm putting my turkey fryer together tonight. I've never prepared them this way. I've heard it's the only way to fix wild turkey....Steve1
freeflir29 0 #7 May 1, 2005 When I'm at home I don't have to hunt them. They wander around in the yard. Last time My Mom wanted one I just walked out there and popped one. It's merely shooting not hunting.

blueVTsky 0 #9 May 1, 2005 Yeah dude, I just got some sleep after sitting out there since 3 AM. the woods were wet and quiet....I mean QUIET not a Kee Kee to be heard.....but I did call in and watch a coyote while on foot and that was cool cause I rarely see them ...very stealthy. Nice job by the way! MMMMM good.
Amazon 7 #10 May 1, 2005 I know where a bunch of them are over near the survial schools training area. I never go after birds though.. I have issues about picking shot out of them at the table. Now.. if they would let me hunt them with something other than a shotgun I would be in good shape. Every deer season I manage to get some grouse for camp..since using my rifle is legal for that....I shoot thier wittle heads off so the meat is in good shape for cooking.
 blueVTsky 0 #11 May 1, 2005 Wow, wish I could do that, get caught shooting birds with a rifle out here and they'll hang my hide.
 steve1 5 #12 May 1, 2005 Jeane, If you have a really tight choke you can get nearly all the shot into the head and neck area. Biting into a BB is no fun though. That reminds me, I've got to go check the turkey that is now cooking out in my shop. They've been coming out a little too well done, but still pretty tasty....Steve1
 steve1 5 #13 May 1, 2005 The deep fryer is working okay. Had a heck of a time getting it hot enough though. I had four gobblers in the freezer from last Spring also, so I've been busy fixing all of them. I've tried baking them in the oven and even smoking them, and they all seemed too dry. I don't know how much grease they soak up by frying them, but they definitely do taste better that way. Gotta go check my bird. God I wish I was jumping. I'm heading up to Canada next weekend to do just that. Haven't jumped since last September. Isn't that pathetic. To heck with the gobblers, please post more photos of Pam. Something in a black formal gown would do nicely. Well heck, go take some "skimpy" pictures! A woman who enjoys being in the woods and hunting, is already incredibly sexy, even in full camoflauge. Nice prong!
